Karuk weaved through the trees, the bark of the trunks carefully brushing his sides with each step. Kilton flitted through the trees above, occasionally screeching with boredom. Karuk shook his head slowly, his long black mane caressing his neck. It was getting colder as the day grew older, though he enjoyed it. It was much better than the unforgiving heat. At least during the colder seasons you could take shelter in a warm place; when it became warm your only choice was to wade in the rivers and even then sometimes it only worked for a little while. He snorted softly, picking up a trot as he moved through the trees. He loved the smell of the earth and the leaves around him as the seasons changed. He closed his eyes as he jogged, relying on the feel of the earth beneath his feet to keep him from colliding with a tree. He nickered softly, the noise piercing the otherwise quiet afternoon. Kilton screeched in reply, darting down and in front of Karuk, squawking once again. Karuk squinted his eyes open, glaring at the eagle. He cawed, reaching out with his talons before gliding forward, motioning to the river ahead. Karuk rolled his eyes, slowing back to a walk as he neared the rocky beach. His hooves clacked against the hard surface, the pebbles shifting under his weight. He snorted again, lowering his head to the water as Kilton dove down and caught a small fish in his large claws. He lipped at the water, lifting his head as the liquid trailed down his lips and dripped to the ground, creating ripples in the water. He sighed, his eyes closing again as the sun warmed his back. It was such a wonderful day, not unlike any other, but unique in its own way. He smiled to himself, his head lowering as his body relaxed. It was a very nice day indeed.

Shika trotted proudly through the small brushes in a semi open area of the woods. She had found interest in a small colourful butterfly. "Come back here little one, I'm not going to hurt you. I just want to stare at you some more so I can see all your pretty colours and markings. Please come back little one, I really do just want to look at you!" She called out continuously, so much talking its like she never breathed, like she didn't even need the air to help her live. Talking was the most important thing on her mental list, and then came the others like breathing and eating. Shika is a funny little mare, tending to find herself caught up in the world around her all the time. She enjoyed the world though she disliked the war and the fact that she may never know where her parents roam now, due do this sudden war. Though she didn't want to get stuck in that now. She was pretty much more interested in the small creature. She hadn't realized how close to the river she had gotten untill she stumbled, lost her balance and ended up face first into the small stream of water coming from the river. She lay flat on her chest and stomach. Her nose right in the cool water. She noticed as some dragonfly darted by. Just as quick as it had happened she had soon forgot the same. She quickly got back up and chased after the dragonflies. "Wait up! Don't go so fast you should slow down and endure the world around you. Stop being in such a..." Humphh she collided with something large, warm and a little too soft to be a tree. Though it also had a hard compact. Shaking it out she looked at what had gotten in her path. There stood right in front of her eyes was another equine. One that was coloured amazinly. His bald face was just spectacular, and the way they seemed to link up to those across his torso, which situated mainly on his lower body. "Why hello there" she smiled and took a step back.

Karuk's ears twisted as the trees rustled, signaling the approach of another equine. He opened one eye in the direction they were coming from, deciding to continue to stand there until they got closer. There was no reason to bother himself in moving just because someone else was walking up. Kilton was settled on the ground further down the stream, picking at his fish. He knew Karuk didn't like the smell, so he stayed a distance away. Considerate bird. Karuk sighed, lifting his head at the steps got closer, vocals entering the air though he couldn't make out the specific words. He shifted his weight, cocking on ankle as he swished his tail back and forth. Suddenly, the form of another equine burst from the trees, tripping into the water. His ears perked forward and he took a step towards her. Was she alright? Kilton paused in his eating to look at the strange creature, tilting his head to the side and flapping his wings before returning to his meal. She was dark brown with large white splatters across her body, just as he was but in a completely different design. He relaxed as the vixen quickly got to her feet, obviously unhurt. He watched as she appeared to be interested in a random insect as the winged creature flew away from her. "Wait up! Don't go so fast you should slow down and endure the world around you. Stop being in such a..." Karuk's eyes widened as the mare was unaware of his presence and collided with him in her haste to follow the dragon fly. He took a step backward and looked at the slightly larger fae as she spoke again; her words direct at him now.
"Why hello there" she said and smiled as she stepped back as well. He inclined his head, "Hello," he replied softly. "I do imagine you're alright? That was quite a fall you took," he asked, eying her closely. Kilton screeched, leaping into the air and gliding towards them. Having dipped his dirty talons in the water, he settled at the top of Karuk's neck, stretching out over his head and blinking at the mare. He cawed, lifting a section of the horse's mane in one of his claw's and tugging. Karuk flattened his ears, snorting and shaking his head. The large eagle squawked in protest before jumping from his shaky perch and to the more solid ground. Karuk looked back at the mare, ignoring the annoying bird and waiting for her to reply to his question.

Shika eyed the bird closely, feeling a little unsettled by his presence. She watched as he dipped his talons into the water and soon returned to the equine in front of her. She averted her eyes back to the equine, staring mainly at his pretty markings. The marking to his head was most pretty, it made him look as if he were bald, as the white covered it all up. She watched him as he began speaking to her, not really paying to much attention to what he was saying. She listened to the world around her. The wind blowing through the trees, the trickle of the water near by, the calling of a wild animal somewhere in the woods. She focused back onto the equine again, just in time to catch his question. She tilted her head, slightly confused "Fall, what are you talking about falls for, there aint no water falls around here..." She paused and looked him right in the eye. "Oh wait... did you mean me. I don't think i had a fall, i think i would have known about that, though saying that maybe i did." She paused and looked up into the sky, in a way so that it might help her remember her previous doings. "Dang it now you have confused me, i don't like being confused.." Shika pouted and sulked, now feeling all deranged and forgetful, something she disliked. "If your saying i fell, then doing so must mean that you where stood watching me and i didn't see you. I must have been ..." she paused again pulling a strange face to try and think. "Thats right, i was following a pretty butterfly as it had really cool markings" She look all pleased with herself, though she still hadn't figured out if she had fallen or not. Though the equine was hinting at a fact that she may have taken one. "Well if you Are saying so, then i don't remember it, which means that it must not have been so bad, or i just don't feel the pain as my cranium never registered it "

"Fall, what are you talking about falls for, there aint no water falls around here..." she replied, looking at him. Water falls? He hadn't said anything about water falls. His eyes pulled together in confusion and it must have registered because she spoke again, "Oh wait... did you mean me. I don't think I had a fall, I think I would have known about that, though saying that maybe I did." She couldn't remember falling? She looked towards the clouds and he glanced upward also, then back down at her. Did she really not remember tumbling into the river just moments before? "Dang it now you have confused me, I don't like being confused.." she continued, her lower lip puckering out just a bit. He relaxed his frame, his ears flickering as he listened to the sounds of the forest around him and the river beside him, all while wondering what this strange creature was thinking. She couldn't possibly have forgotten that she had fallen, right? It seemed strange that she would just all of a sudden forget. He opened his mouth to apologize for confusing her, not knowing what else to say, but quickly closed it as she started to speak again. "If you're saying I fell, then doing so must mean that you where stood watching me and i didn't see you. I must have been ..." she stopped and he waited for her to finish her thought. Her face contorted in a look that said she was trying to remember, but couldn't. Then she spoke again, "Thats right, I was following a pretty butterfly as it had really cool markings," she said, her face lighting up now that she had remembered something. His lips curled up at the sides, smiling at her reaction. A butterfly? Well that would explain her interest in the dragonfly just a few moments before. She seemed to be a little scatterbrained, her thoughts wandering everywhere and becoming easily distracted. She reminded him of Kilton when he was a fledgeling, always getting into places he shouldn't be because of his expanded curiosity. "Well if you are saying so, then I don't remember it, which means that it must not have been so bad, or I just don't feel the pain as my cranium never registered it."
He nodded once as she finally finished speaking. "Well, I can assure you, I did see you fall. But, as you say, perhaps it wasn't as bad as it appeared?" he smiled at her again, this time a crooked smile, his lips lifting on one side. "And I am sorry to have confused you." he said as he shifted his weight in the rocks, the stones clacking together with his movement. He noticed that one of her ankles had a scrape, most likely from her fall into the river. "Ah, and see," he said, lowering his head, "You did hurt yourself in this fall that you do not seem to remember." he said, his eyes straining up to look at her. "Though, it's not that deep, you might not feel it yet." He lifted his head back up, Kilton standing next to his feet and staring at the small wound. He squawked before opening his wings and gliding to a nearby tree, much happier to be higher in the air. Karuk ignored him, turning back to the mare. "I wouldn't be too worried about it, though the fact that you can't remember might be cause for concern." he said, his eyes pulling together quizzically. The healing part of him was taking over, trying to figure out what may be wrong with the mare to make her forget. The leg wound was nothing that needed his abilities; it would heal on its own just fine. Though her memory, that he didn't know.

Shika watched him as he spoke to her, listening to what he had to say this time, instead of letting her mind wander as she usually did. "Well, I can assure you, I did see you fall. But, as you say, perhaps it wasn't as bad as it appeared?" She smiled back to him, glad that someone was keeping an eye on her. "And I am sorry to have confused you." She nodded towards him acknowledging his sincere apology. She was about to speak when he slightly startled her with his sudden outburst. "Ah, and see," She followed his glanced as he looked downwards at something. "You did hurt yourself in this fall that you do not seem to remember." He spoke just before she had the time to reply to him. She noticed the small graze on her ankle, not feeling all that bothered by it. She shifted her weight as he spoke once more "Though, it's not that deep, you might not feel it yet." She glanced back to him. "No i don't really feel it yet, maybe later i will, but its nothing to worry over" she smiled gently, then looked down at the eagle now standing by her hooves. She took a little side step away from him as he squeaked, flapping of into the sky and landing in a near by tree. The equine spoke again, drawing her attention back towards him. "I wouldn't be too worried about it, though the fact that you can't remember might be cause for concern." She gave him a questioning look. "Why would me not remembering much be a problem? I don't always remember things as i get distracted by other things around me, maybe i'm just too curious for my own good" She lowered her head feeling a little unhappy with herself. She breathed in heavily, almost like a sigh.
Shika could hear the familiar sound of beating wings coming towards them. She looked over her shoulder in the direction which is was coming. She saw the flash of familiar blue, flitter through some trees. She darted towards the trees. "Akiiki!" she exclaimed as she had darted away. She stopped just before the trees began, not to far from the other equine. As she stopped a small blue jay popped out of the trees, flitting over to Shika. She reached out with he nose towards him, as he flew towards her, perching right on the end of he nose. The little bird tilted his head so he could look at her. "Akiiki i have missed you, and don't give me that look, you know im just clumsy i cant help it" she spoke so fast and excited to see him again. Shika then remembered she had been talking to another equine. She turned around, the bird now resting between her ears as she headed back to him. Shika trotted gently back to him, the rocks not making it all to easy, She stumbled across some, but managed to keep her balance well, until she tripped over a more larger rock, Akiiki flew into the air as she did so, squawking out in fright. Shika cried out, landing on her side with a breath takenly, thud.

"Why would me not remembering much be a problem? I don't always remember things as I get distracted by other things around me, maybe I'm just too curious for my own good," Karuk nodded, "Well, if its a regular thing, then you should be fine," he smiled, "I was just concerned because you might have hit your head before, or when you fell, causing you not to remember, but I suppose it's just your brain working in mysterious ways." She lowered her head, as if upset and sighed deeply. He lowered his as well, just a tad lower than hers and tried to look into her eyes. "Hey," he murmured, "It's okay not to remember things sometimes." He pulled back, lifting his head and taking a step to the side. He really hoped he hadn't made her upset.
Suddenly, though, she turned and lurched towards the nearby trees, yelling "Akiiki!". He turned, his ears perked forward as he wondered what she was so suddenly happy about. A small blue bird appeared from the trees and landed on her nose. He twisted his head to look at Kilton, the eagle, who was picking at his talons, stopped and screeched at Karuk before continuing what he was doing. He was uninterested in the little blue creature. Karuk turned back to the painted mare, noticing her speaking to the bird. He suddenly understood her outburst; though he didn't get that excited to see Kilton, he could relate to having a friend who happened to have wings. She turned around, as if remembering that he was still there. His head tilted to the side a fraction and she started to trot back towards him. He watched her carefully, wondering why she couldn't just walk across the rocks. And then she began to stumble, keeping her balance though he could see her straining to make it across the slippery surface of the stones. He took a step forward, pausing as she seemed to readjust herself and continue on. Then she tripped, the blue bird flew into the air as she tumbled to the ground. She whinnied as she hit the ground on her side.
Karuk's eyes widened as he quickly gathered himself and carefully approached her. "Are you alright?" he asked, lowering his head once he was closer to her. He looked to her side though, of course, he couldn't see if she had been impaled on anything from this side of her body. He looked back at her face. "Did you land on anything?" he asked, his voice calm and collected. "And your leg?" he asked, remembering. He looked at the previously injured leg, new blood had welled from the cut and started to trail down her white ankle. His attention returned to her face, waiting for her to reply to his questions before he started to worry she had seriously injured herself. He was always jumping to conclusions when others got hurt, immediately worrying something tragic had happened.

Shika lay in silence. Just the steady breathing and raising of her chest still remained. She had her eyes shut firmly, as if she was trying to wake up from a dream. Hopping to wish it all away. She could hear feint voices talking in the back of her mind. They seemed far in the distance, but also felt close by at the same time, sort of just dangling in the vast darkness. "Are you alright?" and a gap then ... "Did you land on anything?". Shika immediately recognized that voice. It had come from the equine she had accidentally ran into earlier. She twitched at the sound of his voice. Akiiki flew down landing upon her shoulder causing her muscle to twitch from the light touch. Shika slowly began to open her eyes...

The small blue bird flew down to the mare's shoulder, her muscles twitching with the sudden touch. He watched her carefully, wondering if she would wake up by herself; wondering if there was something there he couldn't see. She reminded him of Katerina -- not in the way she looked, but in the things she did. Her happy attitude and inability to focus on anything; the clumsiness. He sighed softly, wishing for a moment that she was still here. That he could have helped her. He cleared his throat, carefully nudging the fallen mare. "Are you still there?" he asked quietly, wondering if she was still conscious. He lifted his head, shifting to investigate the extent of her wounds. He inhaled, catching the sharp scent of blood mixed with the smell of the earth and water. He nickered softly, walking across the rocks as they shifted under his steps. He stopped next to her withers, lowering his head next to her spine. He nudged against her back, watching to see if she responded at all. He sighed again, pushing against her body in an attempt to see better. He stopped and pulled back when he touched something wet and sticky. He snorted, the tip of his nose covered with blood. He reached down, smearing the red substance across his foreleg but successfully taking it away from his nostrils. He turned back to the mare, "Okay," he murmured, "You've got to at least wake up now." He stepped back around, facing her and lowering his head next to hers, nudging her neck. He didn't want to risk pushing against her shoulder in case he accidentally moved her, causing her more pain from the puncture in her side.
Her lids began to flicker, opening. "Yeah, that's it," he said encouragingly. "You're going to have to twist so that I can see how bad it is." His voice was soft, paired with a slightly worried face and kind eyes. He hoped she would be fine, though at least he could help. He was a little bit cautious with using his abilities on random strangers, but that's why he had chosen this gift, right? To help those who needed it. Like Katerina had. He pushed the thoughts aside, knowing that he couldn't have done anything to prevent what had happened to her. It was in the past and he had come to terms with it. And if he had to, he would save this mare the way he couldn't have saved her. At least he could do some good with the rest of his seemingly unimportant role in life. Healing had seemed like such a better answer when the choice was given; and now looking down at the injured mare as she struggled to wake, he knew that it was. Giving life was much more rewarding than taking it. If only everyone would realize that fact.
"Are you having trouble breathing at all?" he asked, wondering where exactly the rocks had struck her and what they might have hit. Hopefully nothing but some muscle and flesh, but it was hard tell just by looking. He wasn't an expert at looking and being able to see what was wrong. He could only tell the difference between wounds that would need his help and those that wouldn't. It was like an extra sense that worked a portion of the time, leaving him to guess the other half. "How much does it hurt?" he asked, stopping with his questions and giving her a chance to answer him.

Shika could feel the warmth of something pushing against her side. inaudible voices around her. It wasn't that she was unconscious, she just did not want to wake upright now. The pain was unbearable. she felt the warmth of another living mammal near by, pretty close. He was trying to coax her round.
It took shika another few minutes before she opened her eyes. she gently nickered, almost soundless. she stayed on her side, Just moving her head to look at herself. Nothing was visible on that side, though her cut ankle was bleeding a little more than it had been before. she noticed that Akiiki was perching upon her shoulder preening his pretty blue feathers. She made a gentle noise to him, almost as if she were whispering to him. he then took of into the sky. Shika had no idea if the other equine was still here, she couldn't even call out for him as she hadn't even caught his name yet. Gently she tried to turn over so she was laying with her legs under her chest. She cried out and slumped back down again. She could barely move before the pain struck to harshly again. As she moved she did feel that something was sticking into her side, scraping against something, tearing something... She lay their breathing heavy, the pain taking too much energy from her.
