As the sun filtered out, warm for the winter air, she kicked her hoof, splattering water across his dark coat. They sprinkled across his face and he blinked them out of his eyes before shaking his head and laughing as they ran down his broad chest. 'You’re going to have to catch me again if you want payback for that, I’m afraid!' She called out as she pranced away, and he laughed, arching his neck and stretching out his front legs as he pranced after her. 'Catch me, that is, if you ca—' Ava started to say but then her voice slipped and a loud splash echoed after it. Whisky pulled his head up, panic flashing through his eyes.
'Whiskey! Whiskey!' His ears pricked forward at the sound of her voice- gurgling and struggling as his eyes scanned the water frantically for her form. Where was she? Whiskey leaped forward, screaming out for her, "Ava! Ava where are you?!" he dove into the deep water where she had disappeared, before lifting himself and breaking up out of the water, his mane plastering to his neck. He powered forward, kicking and stretching his legs. There. He saw her form rise above the water before going back under. Whiskey screamed out again, the clouds covering up the sun and he could see small clouds puff out from his nares and mouth. He snorted, kicking harder and diving under. His eyes flashed open, water swirling all around him and a petite form before his eyes. He pushed forward, his body colliding with hers.
Whiskey pushed her head on his withers before digging his feet into the rocks and pushing himself up with as much force as he could. Her lightweight body was slipping away from him and he turned, pulling her closer to him. He broke free of the thin surface, snorting the water out of his nostrils. He dipped under to position Ava over him in a easier way, and kicked towards the surface. He dragged himself up, sliding against the bank as he legs shook with exhaustion. He dragged himself over to a nice shelter under some trees. It was a lot warmer and Whiskey collapsed to the ground, curling in closer to Ava and running his maw along her neck, trying to wipe as much water as he could off of her.
"A-Ava," Whiskey said, his eyes flashing with tears, wrapping his neck around her shoulders. "Oh, Ava..." Whiskey cried, pulling her closer to him, trying to warm her small freezing body. "You-You'll be okay." Whiskey said to her, listening to her fluttering heart beat. Oh why did this have to happen to him? Why now? What had he done? He loved her with all he could, and she had finally said she had loved him too. They... they were starting a family. When she had uttered those words he knew he would never have to worry again. But now he did have to. What if... what if she died? He didn't know how he would be able to live without her small, courageous form bouncing alongside him. After they had just got everything solved, and now this?

I am a flower quickly fading, here today and gone tomorrow A wave tossed in the ocean, a vapor in the wind Still you hear me when I’m calling All she could remember was the sound of the water as it rushed up to meet her ears, as it pulled itself around her and over her head, drowning out the rest of the world, drowning her. Whiskey…was he coming? He had to be coming…he would help her…
When she came to, she was lying on the bank. The sun was setting, and the light breeze of earlier that day had turned into a cold wind. She shivered and coughed, water spewing from her muzzle onto the rocks. ”Whiskey…?” she whispered, noticing the warm form sprawled behind her. ”Whiskey…?” Tears filled her eyes. ”I…I’m so sorry…”

The winter wind swirled around the pair of horses, and Ava shivered slightly as they made their way through the snow. She coughed hoarsely, chest heaving. Ever since she’d slipped into the river, her lungs had been weak. She was constantly cold, and with the winter she was thin and frail. She was sure she looked no better than a bag of bones, but Whiskey was still with her. ”W-Whiskey,” she managed, teeth chattering. ”W-where w-w-will we rest for tonight?” She touched her muzzle gently to his own, guilt and grief struggling for dominance within her chest. By this point, they both knew that any hopes of her carrying a foal were nonexistent—the hypothermia had made sure of that. Right now she was so weak that her system could barely support her, let alone a foal. She had let him down. A single tear slipped out of the eye he couldn’t see, freezing to her thin cheek. How had they been so unfortunate?

The winter weather had just gotten worse, and so had Ava it seemed. Her small body shook horrible beside him, and he could hear her teeth clack together. He knew she couldn't support... the foal. His eyes stung at the thought, they had decided to start a family and then a disaster happens. She could barely support herself, and he pulled her small painted form closer. 'W-Whiskey. W-where w-w-will we rest for tonight?' she asked, barely able to talk. Clouds of freezing air puffed around his nose as he exhaled, and he ducked his head down against the wind. He pried open his eyes, which within his pupils were now in the shape of a snowflake. Was that a bad sign? He had no idea what was going on. He pried open his eyes, squinting and looking for another shelter under some trees. "N-not far. Trees. Ahead." Whiskey managed to splutter through his lips. He trudged through the swirling and lasping snow, huddling close to Ava.
As the approached the trees, Whiskey made sure it wasn't an actual tree well. Then he helped Ava down slowly to the warmest and most sheltered place before sliding down himself and blocking the excess wind from hitting Ava by lying in front of her, pressing his long winter coat against her. "W-winter sucks." Whiskey said harshly, glaring at really just the plain cold. It tortured them every year, and it had stopped Whiskey and Ava from starting a family. He cuddled up against her, trying to warm her as he ran his maw along her neck softly. His eyes drooped with exhaustion and he leaned against Ava, listening to the even beat of her heartbeat as it lulled him to sleep.

Whiskey's eyes opened suddenly, and he blinked a few times, trying to rid the sleep from his system. It had stopped snowing and the sun was actually shining for once. His lips curled up excitedly, a fresh layer of snow blanketing the earth and sparkling, yet to be walked on. Ava breathed evenly beside him and he smiled, watching her form sleep peacefully. He rested his head against his forelegs, waiting for his sleeping beauty to wake, maybe then she'd be up for a little play time in the fresh snow, the only advantage to winter.
His thoughts drifted to what the foal could of been like. Girl or boy? He'd be really happy with either really. It would have it's mothers gorgeous chocolate brown eyes that were always sparkling. Maybe it would even be a paint like it's mother? He could imagine the small foal bouncing around, intrigued by everything. He could hear it's tinkling laugh, nearly see those first steps, those first words. A grin tugged at his lips as his eyes closed peacefully. It would happen, eventually....

Ava’s slumber was surprisingly peaceful. That was, until the dreams began. In the first one, Rhyn was by her side, as he usually was in fantasies such as these. That was normal. But this time, he was joined by another form. Its outlines were blurred, as if it wasn’t really there, yet its presence was unmistakable. The small figure stirred, and her sobs caught in her throat as she stared down at the small filly—was it a ghost of what could have been? She tried to stretch out her muzzle, to reach out and touch the baby, but she couldn’t move. It looked up at her, and Whiskey’s eyes were staring back…
She awoke to the same sight, Whiskey’s familiar face peering down at her. She coughed weakly before smiling and greeting him with a soft, ”Good morning.” Ava could barely get the words out before another series of coughs racked her frame. Oh, how she hated being in such a condition. She rose unsteadily and nosed at the fresh snow in despair; she would never be able to find the slightest blade under all of this! Tears of frustration flooded her eyes, and she turned away before Whiskey could see—she knew that she didn’t really have a reason to be crying at this particular moment. The sun was shining, it was a new day…but within the first few minutes it was already horribly and inexplicably wrong. ”Be right back,” she mumbled before stumbling off through the snow. She needed to be alone for a minute to get ahold of herself.
Ava coughed once more, and she shook her head wearily. Water…she needed water. Where would she find it here though, where all of the ponds and puddles had frozen over and she was too weak to break the ice with a hoof? That was why, when she saw it, she thought that she must be hallucinating. The pond was small, but the water within was shining lazily, moving in slight eddies from time to time, as if it was boiling from within. Cautiously, Ava took an incredulous sip. She felt the warmth spreading through her entire body. Fearful, she backed away from the water, now bubbling up more furiously than ever. The thin mare, afraid, turned to rush off and slipped on a patch of ice. Her figure crumpled to the ground, her mane splayed out around her head, its tendrils just inches from the pond. Slowly though, the water began to sink into the ground. By the time anyone found her, it would be as if the water had never been there…
--behind the post-- yay, magical warm water for Ava XD [/size]
