"That's not what I meant, when I said that," He spoke seeming like he was rather stuck for words, and confused. He spoke again "That's not what I meant..." This time seeming like she had broken down a barrier inside his mind. She watched him as he stood there quietly, just the moving of his chest as he breathed. She was just about to walk away and leave him, but just as she stepped away he began to speak once again. "I will never be able to make up for what I've done in the past, Shika," "And no, I'm not saying that I wouldn't have wanted to save your life like I did yesterday, and I do realize that I did something good, but it... It still doesn't make up for anything." Shika sighed a deep, sorroful sigh. There was not much more she could say to him, she had already hurt him too much already, what happened if she hit a sore spot with him? if she enraged him? with his size and strength he could easily take her down, well espicially the fact that Shika had no idea how to fight, plus being rather clumsy did not help that fact. "Im sorry KAruk, i truely am, but i guess i just cant help you anymore. Though i would like if you joined me, its your choice aswell, so if you dont want to thats purely your decision. Though im not like those other alphas, i never accepted there gift of invincibility, im here to do my job of making peace and then to leave this land and join the spirit relm" She sighed after speaking rather softly and distanly into the empty space, not once glancing at him. And then she carried on those steos, slowly moving further and further from his very presence.

"I'm sorry Karuk, I truly am, but I guess I just can't help you anymore. Though I would like if you joined me, it's your choice as well, so if you don't want to thats purely your decision. Though I'm not like those other alphas, I never accepted their gift of invincibility, I'm here to do my job of making peace and then to leave this land and join the spirit realm."
A sigh followed her quiet words and she began to walk away. Karuk's head dropped, thoughts running through his head. Should he go after her? Did he want to? It was strange though, since she was the one who had come after him, and now the roles seemed to be reversed. He understood though, why she would realize she should move on and forget about him. He still wasn't even sure he should trust her. Though, she kept saying she was different than the others. Could he truly believe that? He was so torn, wanting to believe what she said and letting himself trust someone other than his bird companion, but the more rational side kept telling him to just give up and move on, to not try so hard and just leave. It was just one soul, there were more, ones easier to befriend and trust. But did he want that? The easiness? In a way, it was easy with Shika. He found himself just talking and acting without thought, it was quite strange. But now, everything was clouded with thoughts and actions and everything was running together in his mind and he didn't know what to do.
Kilton glided to his perch, quietly waiting for the painted stag to decide what was best. Karuk sighed, not knowing what to do. He looked up through the trees, at the sky as clouds started to move in. An autumn storm. He shivered as the temperature seemed to drop several degrees in just a few milliseconds. He looked at the trees around him, the shadows somehow seeming darker than before. He turned and looked in the direction Shika had gone, her form already lost in the growing fog. Kilton shifted uneasily, huddling his head close to his body and squawking softly. Karuk slowly took a step forward, in no real direction, turning to look at the trees behind him. The woods suddenly seemed very eerie and taunting around him as the clouds obscured the dim sun and rumbled across the land. He twisted his head in the direction Shika had gone, glancing back at Kilton once before he started forward at a trot.
The trees seemed to grow closer together, making the path harder to navigate. The shadows appeared to be growing and spreading, leaving darkness in it's path. He nickered softly, hoping Shika hadn't gone too far. He had been debating whether or not it would be best to just leave her, but now with the strange weather, his choice was solid. There was that part of him that wanted to go after her, and now it roe up in him and pushed the other part down. How could he think he could just leave someone to fend for themselves anyway? It just didn't work that way. "Shika?" he asked, searching the growing darkness for a glimpse of her painted form. Goosebumps spread over his flesh as a cold breeze trailed over him and he stopped, scanning the surrounding area for a moment before starting forward again. Kilton jumped off, gliding through the trees, within sight.
"Shika?" he called again, seeing something move up ahead of him. Was that her? He hoped that it was as he started to move forward a tad faster. He slowed as he saw the figure of an equine ahead, carefully walking forward. "Hey," he murmured, nudging her lightly as he stopped beside her, "You didn't honestly think I was just going to let you walk off by yourself, did you?" he asked, turning to look at her. He softly shook his head, a twitch of a sad smile on his face before the sky rumbled again. He glanced upward, but there was nothing but billowing dark grey clouds. He looked back at Shika, "Come on, we need to find shelter. This place if giving me a bad feeling." He made a face as he said that, momentarily glancing at the shadows around him before returning his attention to the mare beside him.

Shika slowly moved forward, watching each step, precariously stepping around the trees roots. She didnt know where she were going to be honest, though if she just walked she would end up somewhere. The air around her suddenly changed. She could feel something huge heading there way, and it was not a good feeling either. She shivered under the sudden cold, the forest drew darker. Glancing up into the sky she notice the huge storm cloud rolling in, shuddering at the eerie presence of it. As she glance back down she noticed a white mist had gathered where it hadnt been just moments before. It creeped through the forest engulfing everything as it went, this was not good, Not good at all. Karuk! I have to go back, i have to find him. I cant leave him behind, thats not what an Alpha should do, they should protect the others. But there are no others here, no one but myself Shika dropped her gaze to the ground, the mists had turned thicker still, now more like a fog, it chilled her to the core, now just standing in the darkness, alone, cold, shivering. Karuk. she thought once more, the name echoed inside her mind.
The winds picked up, rustling the remaing leaves upon the autumn trees. Howling through the forests, howling like that of a wolf. Shika perked up Wind like the sound of wolfs? She listend intently, ears flicking around, picking up more strange noises. Deep moaning sounds came from the earth beneath, like something was being awakend. Something moving around in the undergroth , footballs upon the sodden earth. Wolves The howling had not been the wind, but the ressident pack of wolves, the mists had awakened them, drawing them out of there burrows in the hope to find food. Food by the name of Shika and Karuk if they were to stay much longer. Karuk She sighed his name, how where she to find him now? She could barely see anything anymore, the fog had gotten too thick, the clouds now blocked out any form of light. Sounds where being carried along with the winds, some sounded like voices and others were the movement of creatures, turning in to get out of the storm. An eerie silence fell over the lands, not even the sound of one bird, one creature calling out, nothing, but the sounds of her breathing.
Shika stood silently, caught up in the strange actions of the world going on right in front of her eyes, so caught up in it that she didnt here the pressence of Karuk. "Hey," She jumped at the touch on her side, and the words so close by, she hadn't even been awaare of his appraoch, that was not good, what if he had been a Wolf? she would have been a goner for sure. Shika jumped a few inches sideways, and turned to find Karuk standing close by. Imeediatly dropping all sense to attack whatever it had been. "You didn't honestly think I was just going to let you walk off by yourself, did you?" He spoke rather slow and with a hint of sadness. Did she though? did she really think he wouldnt follow her? Maybe she did, but right now she was glad that he had, the weather was beginning to scare her more than she ever realised she could be.
"Come on, we need to find shelter. This place if giving me a bad feeling." Karuk spoke the words that she was feeling eaxctly, yes they had to get out of here. She watched into the shadows, realising she had lost the sound of the wolves, she listened hoping she could pick them up, but nothing, not even the sound of them running. Oh great this is not good! She thought to her self, immediatly moving closer to Karuk again. She didnt know why but whenever she was close to him she felt safer than she had ever before. She turned to glance at him "Yes we must get out of her, fast. I think we're being watched, stalked, hunted." She galnced back into the sahdows, now feeling like there were a thousand eyes upon them " I could hear wolves in the distance, but i lost track of them, and they have magically dissapeared Karuk. We need to move, and move now, or we could be ther next victims" She turned back to galnce at him, Hoping to find some sort of regognition, reasurence through him. Fear ran clear through her eyes and deep into her soul.

"Yes we must get out of here, fast. I think we're being watched, stalked, hunted. I could hear wolves in the distance, but I lost track of them, and they have magically dissapeared Karuk. We need to move, and move now, or we could be their next victims."
Karuk nodded, looking into the shadows around them. He knew the area somewhat well, and he took a step forward in what he was pretty sure was the direction to at least get our of the forest. It may be dark all around, but the trees were marking in even more difficult to navigate the terrain. He took a few steops forward, pausing as an owl hooted in a nearby tree. Kilton screeched, gliding forward and eying the shadows as warily as Karuk. He took a deep breath, starting to walk forward again. They just needed to get out of here. The ground was obscured by a white mist, their feet hidden in it. "Come on," he said, his shoulder brushing hers as he transitioned into a steady trot. The quicker they got out, the better. This place was giving him the creeps. Kilton glided alongside the pair, weaving in and out of the trees as they worked their was towards what they hoped was the end of the woods. The mist swirled in the air, giving the air an even more eerie and ghastly feeling than before.
The clouds rumbled again, though no moisture fell from the skies. Karuk would occasionally glace up to make sure of this fact, though it was hard to see anything in the blending darkness of the world. The air was cool against his skin and he shivered, dipping his head and touching his muzzle to his chest for a moment before uncoiling the muscles once again. Suddenly Kilton screeched loudly and the large bird came flying back towards Karuk and Shika, having gone a little ways ahead of the two. Karuk slowed, stopping beside the mare and looking back at the eagle with a confused face. The bird was fidgety and anxious, having obviously seen something up ahead. Karuk glanced at Shika before taking a steop forward, watching the hazy path before them.
"Karuk...." the wind whispered and the painted stag stopped, his ears flickering and his head turning. Who had said his name? "Did you hear that?" he murmured, glancing at Shika. The mist started to build, crashing across the ground like white, translucent waves. His head jerked to the side as something shot across his peripheral vision. He took a step forward, opening his mouth and preparing to singal Shika it was time to start moving again when an ivory figure appeared on the path in front of them. "Don't you think you should introduce me to your friend, love?" the apparation asked, her voice echoing off the trees and send chills down his spine. His eyes widened and he took a step back, staring at the ghastly creature. Her figuer was formed out of the mist, void of any colors other than the dark shades showing through the opaque mist. Though she wasn't whole like he thought a ghost should be. She looked the same as when he last saw her, and it wasn't a very pretty sight, even if it was just a ghost.
She stepped forward, the projection wavering and then settling back. He took another step backward, continuing to stare. It couldn't be her. Why was she haunting him, why now? Why...Like this? Her head was a tad lopsided where he skull had been crushed, a limp in the twisted leg. Her stomach was torn open, intestines and the foal dragging across the ground as she walked. His breathing esculated as he started to freak out, just a tad. What the hell was going on? His skin broke out in a sweat despite the cold air and remained quiet as she waited for him to speak up. Finally she sighed, "Well, if you're going to be rude..." she shook her ghostly head, floating forward a few paces and turning to Shika. Karuk was frozen, his eyes wide as she came so close to them. He didn't know what to do. "I'm Katerina," she said happily, [ii]"Are you a friend of Karuk's from the war?"
[/i] She turned to look at him, probably confused at the presence of a mare at his side besides her. Fighting in the war wasn't too much of a long shot, but it wasn't very common either. "Karuk?" she asked when he said nothing, taking a step towards him. He automatically took another step back. "Why do you keep moving away, Karuk?" she asked, her voice tinged with hurt and a little anger. Karuk was finally able to think straight, breaking from the spell. "But...But you're supposed to be dead!" he whispered, confusion rippling across his face. Obviously, she still was, though she didn't seem to completely comprehend that fact. "I can assure you, I am not. Can't you see? Why would you think such a thing? If anyone should be thinking someone was dead, I would think it would be the other way around." She rolled her eyes, cracking a smile. His heart tugged, wishing so much that this could possibly be real, though he knew it was impossible. "Kat..." he said, his voice sad and soft as he shook his head. "What...?" she started to ask as she looked down at herself. It was her turn to take a step back, confused at the state she was in. His heart felt as if it were breaking again as he watched her come to that realization. She backed a few more steps, her ghost form floating backwards before stopping. "The baby...." she said, her voice soft beneath the unreal tears she was shedding. Karuk let out a breath, his eyes closing and his head dropping. This was so cruel. Why couldn't she have lived in her little fantasy world where everything was the same as before, where she didn't know that she was dead? "I'm so sorry, Karuk," she said sadly. He shook his head, "There's nothing to be sorry for." He opened his eyes, looking at her misshapen head and torn skin. "I should have been there." He shook his head, looking away. "I should have helped you." Katerina's ghost flew forward, startling the painted stag at her speed. "No," she said forcefully, her voice strong, "There is nothing you could have done, and I certainly don't want you here with me. You belong where you are." She turned to Shika, "Take care of him for me, will you?" she smiled and then vanished, the mist clearing from the area. [/blockquote] // 1091 words [/color] poor karuk. :/ geez. poor katerina. Shika follwed his step in perfect harmony. No matter what happened she would not stop for anything, unless maybe Karuk was the one, then maybe, just maybe she might just stop. But right at this istant all she wanted was to get out of the woods. She stayed close to his side never straying too far. She shuddered under the strange pressence going on around this place, there was just something not right about this place, the air felt wrong and disturbed.
The sudden outburst from the eagle deatly frightened Shika, she jumped making an unnatural noise, moving further away from Karuk. "Karuk... I dont like this..." She was cut off by Karuks sudden little outburst. "Did you hear that?" shika took a step forward and closer to Karuk trying to see what he was going on about. { "What? What is it Karuk? What you going on about?" she spoke as she began moving with KAruk, only to stop mid air as the mist seemed to roll and form strange shapes on the ground. "Karuk i think its..." She had began speaking at the same time she glance back to Karuk, only to find a transpherent figure of a rather mangled horse standing in front of the two. Shika just stared, blank. Nothing. It was as like she had been placed on pause.
Just like that the world seemed to go into fast forward, eveything happened all at once and all to fast for poor Shika to keep a hold of it all. Everything moved in fast motion before her very eyes, though it was all just blurrs of colours, that of their very own Aura or Chakra. Shika stared into vast nothingmess as happenings went on around her, her mind just froze in place, the once talkiative and always thinking , mind never sleeping Shika had since been silence, all by the presence of that of another kind of magic.
"Take care of him for me, will you?" The words floated passed her eyes etched into the backs of her eyelids. Words? what weer they? Did they really have a truth behind them or did they have no meaning at all, just this randomness made up within these strange minds of ours. Did anything really have a true meaning or was it all just here to live and die? to do itd job and move on to some other place, and just repeat the same thing over. Maybe thats all any of us were to do, to all have a specific job to acomplish in these precious lives given to us, and then to move on to distant lands. Forever moving, never looking back.

Karuk glanced at Shika, seeing the blank expression on her face. His was a bit of jumbled confusion and sadness as he looked away again. What had she meant, take care of him? He coughed, clearing his throat, the sound loud in the silence that surrounded them with the disappearance of Katerina. "Should we be going now..then?" he said, taking a step forward and looking back at her. He didn't know what to do now. The sky still thundered above, the threat of rain now possible since the strange occuences had past. There was no longer that chill running down his spine, or the fog obscuring the land, but it was still cold and the storm was still coming. The sky boomed as if agreeing with his train of thoughts, and Kilton appeared from within the trees, squawking and gliding forward down the small path in the woods. Karuk smiled crookedly and half-heartedly back at Shika, wondering if she even would follow him after that. It had been quite a scene, and the only way he could really cope with it was to push it away. He probably wouldn't get sleep tonight, he knew, what had happened would be replaying over and over in his mind preventing him from rest. He turned and began to walk forward, listening for her following footsteps but not really expecting them. He couldn't blame her if she turned the other way and fled.

Shika stood completely frozen, the world around her turned into pure blackness. It felt like years had flown by in such a short period. She turned her head robotically, as voices sounded in her head. Karuk the name floated around and round inside. Buzzing around like an annoying fly. The words seemed meaningless at first but the more they floated around, the more meaning they took on. Click The sound reverberated inside her crazed mind, then all of a sudden the trees loomed up in front of her the sky once blackened by storm clouds was now sprinkled with stars. And everything fell into place. Her limbs seemed to ache for the movement they once had. Brides she could even think right she found herself galloping of and shouting at a disappearing silhouette. Words escaped her mouth, feeling slightly alien. "Karuk!" She soon caught up with him, touching her nose to his side and feeling her way along his torso as she moved to face him, making sure he was actually alive. Especially after what she had just witnessed. "Dont leave me, not yet, qndo anyway I'm supposed to take care of you right. Isn't that what she said, isn't it?" She questioned him her voice raised higher towards the end. She didn't really know what to think anymore. She had possibly just witnessed some of his past.

Karuk paused as she called her name, suddenly thundering after him. He felt her nose against his skin and he turned his head, seeing her stop in front of him. "Dont leave me, not yet, and anyway I'm supposed to take care of you right? Isn't that what she said, isn't it?" Her voice grew higher as she spoke and he could sense her confusion. He nodded once, "That is what she said, yes," he replied, his voice soft. He sill wasn't sure what Katerina had meant by that comment, and it puzzled him. He didn't need to be taken care of, he could take care of himself just fine. Or he had thought he could anyway. He had been doing just that for years now. "Where to?" he asked in an attempt to change the subject and focus on other things. He really didn't know what to make of what had just happened, and he didn't want to spend his time pondering over it when he was sure no answers would come out of it. The sky rumbled again and he looked up, the clouds billowing and the wind picking up. "I do believe the weather is taking a turn for the worst." He commented, taking a step forward.
White flakes began to fall from the angry sky and he couldn't help but look up once again. Snow? He snorted in annoyance, turning back to Shika. "Shall we be leaving then?" He asked, glancing back at the sky and then turning to advance, waiting for Shika. The snow marked the beginning of a new season, perhaps one where they could leave the past behind them. He hadn't know the painted mare very long, but so much had happened since that day at the river. Things that led him to force himself to think clear-headedly and rationally, without automatically assuming things. Though that hadn't worked very well and he had ended up confused more than ever at the turn this had taken. Did he want to continue to think about the past? No, not really, but that didn't keep him from letting those expirences define his actions now. He was still wary of Shika and who she was, not sure if he should truly trust her because of her lies before. But he wanted to believe what she said was true, and he was willing to give her that chance to prove that she just wasn't some Alpha. And who knows where that would lead?
