Shika could hear movent feintly in the back of her mind, then the movement of something underneath her head, causing her head to drop into the water, the shook of it waking her up. She stood up suddenly, wide awake. she bumped her nose against Karuks side, soon remebering they had fallen asleep in the heated pond like thing. " Did you say something earlier Karuk? i was still too asleep to regonise it"She glanced at him, a strange look plastered across his face. She pulled back to get a better look, and wondering why he looked so strange, like he was trying not to breath. She turned to see if there was something dangerous watching them from the side lines, but nope there was nothing but the two of them standing inside the pool. She took in a deep breath ogf morning air, only to be welcomed of a sweet scent mixed with the smell of pine and bark. This was not good, she immediatly knew what was wrong. She was in heat, and that was why Karuk look so strange, he was trying to resist her. "Oh... She jumped back from him bitting her lip, shrinking back down into the pool at the other end, hoping that she could hide the smeel, but it was already too late. "It will be okay Karuk" She spoke the words but new she was at risk now, she had to be carefull. "Are, are you okay?" She deeply worried about him, hoping that she wasnt going to be a burdon on him now, that sweet scent would always be there tempting him to mate her wether she wanted it or not.

She jumped away from him, wading further into the pond. "It will be okay, Karuk," she said, almost trying to calm him. He surpressed a smile, almost shaking his head. He had far more expirence with this than the young mare, having taken a mate before. "Are, are yo uokay?" she asked, eyeing him warily. He nodded, almost laughing. "Yeah, I'm fine," he said, smiling. He took a step to the side, motioning with his head for her to step out of the pond before turning himself, preparing to leave the small spring. "Where to now?" he asked, not sure where to go from here. This spot was a pretty good place to stay, except for the fact that it was placed in the center of a forest where nearly anyone could appear and decide to attack them. The warrior in his mind was kicking into gear as he thought about what winter truly meant. A lot of snow and not very many places to take shelter in, and others would be searching frantically if some place was not already claimed. Though he knew that not many ventured into the South, he'd rather be tucked away into the furthest reaches of the South than out in the open for anyone to do as they wished.

"Yeah, I'm fine," Shika watched him carefully as he seemed to be perfectly fine with her being in heat, like it was just nothing for him. She gave him a cautious glance wondering if he were fooling her. It was quite easy for a stag to lure a fae into his graps, and right now she were just so confused. Shika turned her head away from his glance, not really feeling like going anywhere right now, he stood at the pool's edge waiting for her. "Where to now?" He spoke, but she lowered her head further into the water, resting her nose just above water level. "Im not going anywhere She sulked , taking in a deep breath then submerged herself under water. Shika held out for as long as she could before surfacing again. Turning slightly she caught a glimpse of Karuk. "I want to stay here, i like the pool, its warm in here, and its too cold out there"
[/i] She made a sweaping motion with her head poiting to the world outside the pool. She sighed her grumpy state soon washed over. Turning round she face Karuk, Taking a step closer to the edge where Karuk were stood. She moved, finding a slight decline in the water, she lost her footing and slipped further dwn, though her head remainded above water. Shemoved trying to get back up again, only to find her hoove was stuck in a small hole, trapped. She whinnied softy to him, finding it hard to speak as her neck was stretched out pretty far. "Im not going anywhere," she said. He turned back to look at her, seeing a frown on her face before she took a breath and submerged her head under the water. What did she mean, she wasn't going anywhere? Yeah, this place was a good find, but certainly not suitable to stay in for an extended period of time. He huffed, turning to watch the bubbles rise to the surface as the air she had breathed in slowly disapaited. He waited, seeing her nose resurface, followed by the rest of her head. "I want to stay here, i like the pool, its warm in here, and its too cold out there," she said, gesturing to the woods around them. She sighed, moving to make her way out of the pond as if realizing that she should at least get out of the water. She stepped forward, her body dipping down in the water, quickly submerging most of her neck and part of her jaw as she stretched to keep her head from going under. She cried out for help, a quiet nicker, though he was already stepping towards her to try and help.
We waded into the water, the liquid splashing up in protest to his form as he took up space. He took a deep breath, submerging himself underwater for the second time in the past twenty-four hours. He squinted in the clear water, seeing her foot caught in a small opening in the ground, her stuggles causing the rock to slice into her skin. He touched his muzzle to her leg in an attempt to make her stop thrashing then taking a look at the way in which the hoof was stuck. He quickly moved her foot to the side, then pushing against her ankle to try and dislodge her appendage. Her hoof came loose with a few rock shards that floated into the water. Karuk then righted himself, pushing off for the surface. His nose broke and he inhaled deeply, moving against Shika and pushing her to the shore. "I thought I told you to be careful," he said, looking at her seriously. He slowly walked out of the water, flicking his dripping tail to the side and expelling as much water and possible before shaking his head and neck, the drops splattering everywhere and sinking into the snow on the ground. He turned back to Shika, "Do you care nothing for your own safety?" he questioned honestly, wondering how she could possibly fall into these situations so often and so easily.

Shika watched as he came to her rescue once again. It was pretty much all he had done since they had met. Heck it had been exactly how they had met. It wasn't her fault that she just couldn't control her lumber legs as well as him, she had never learnt of the world and its troubles. Karuk was much older and wiser to her young carefree self. She felt the nudge of his nose upon her leg, automatically keeping still from trying to scramble free. Soon after she felt the snap and her hoove tore free. Karuk surfaced splashing water droplets upon her face. "I thought I told you to be careful," he moaned at her. Making Shika feel bad. She pulled away from him turning her back upon him. She moved to the edge of the pool resting her head upon the rocky ledge. A single tear slipped down her cheeck. "Do you care nothing for your own safety?" . This time as he spoke he hit Shika, hard, casuing her to flinch away from his words. Of course she did care for her safety, she just happened to be the one that always got stuck, always tripped over, always had too long legs. She turned on him lashing out. "I can't help the fact danger calls me, its not like I do this on perpouse! I am who I am and I can't help that Karuk. I'm sorry I'm not katarina! she shouted right at him, then made her way out of the pool and into the trees. She didn't travel all that far, she just had to move away from him. She sighed and dropped her head to the floor.

Karuk flinched as she tore into him, angry with what he had said. "I can't help the fact that danger calls to me. It's not like I do this on purpose! I am who I am and I can't help that, Karuk. I'm sorry I'm not Katerina!" She was yelling at him by the end and he shrunk away, his eyes wide. He hadn't meant it in that way at all. She turned and walked away, disappearing into the trees. "Shika!" He called after her, beginning to follow her. He paused for a moment, wondering if he should wait for her to cool off or just go after her now. He shook his head softly, picking up a trot as he followed her footprints in the snow. "Shika, I'm sorry," he said, speaking into the distance as he went after her. The comment about Katerina had wounded him; he hadn't been comparing either of them to each other for quite some time now, though if anything she reminded him of her, like he had found before. And besides, Shika didn't even know her, so how could she judge for herself how she was or was not like her? He sighed to himself as he followed the trail, cursing himself and his idiotic words.
"Shika?" He asked carefully as he found her laying in the snow. He stopped a few strides away, "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way..." He stopped, dropping his head. He took a step forward, "No, you aren't like... Katerina," he said, pausing at the name. He closed his eyes and continued to speak, "But that doesn't mean you are any less important." He sighed, opening his eyes again to look at her. "You don't want to be like her anyway," he said, his eyes sad but a small smile on his face as he tried to fix whatever he had done. "It's better to be who you are, like you said." He shook his head. "I just meant that... It'd be better if you didn't hurt yourself. I do believe you're more interesting alive." He smiled a little wider this time, touching his muzzle to her forehead before pulling away and looking her in the eyes. "Okay?"

"Shika!" He called after her, serves him right for picking on her in the first place. Though she did tend to get snappy at times, and this purely was the reason for her never being able to keep freinds for a long period of time. "Shika, I'm sorry," He called again, his voice now more distant as she pulled a cornor, resting up against the pine trees. He sounded sincere and worried about her yet again. Why was she doing this to him, heck why was she putting herself through this? To be honest she had no idea why she got like this at times, maybe it was the fact she had always had to look after herself, but then you'd think she would have grown up quicker. Yes she had, but because of that she now missed the inner foal. Shika knelt down onto her knees, her back end shortly follow as she lay into the soft, cold snow. She suddered as the cold suddenly hit her warm body. She adapted quickly though.
"Shika?" The words echoed inside her min, they sounded clearer and pretty close, than they had when he called her name earlier. Her brain was punishing her again, making her live through the terrible things she had done, though the voice broke through to her. "I'm sorry. I didn't mean it that way..." So it wasnt her mind, but KAruk was actually standing over her. She glanced up at him, now feeling sorry for him, the way she always put him through her random emotinal outburst. She were surprised he was actually still sticking around. "No, you aren't like... Katerina," She flinched away from him, she didnt want to hear him tell her anything right now, she just wanted to be left alone. "But that doesn't mean you are any less important." He spoke again, not seeming to get her ignorant answer. His words hit home, a warming sensation flooded through her core. She glanced back to him one more and went to reach out to him, as he spoke once again. "You don't want to be like her anyway," She gently touch her nose to his, blowing a warm breath upon him as she breathed a gentle sigh. She went to reply to him, but he beat her too it once again. "It's better to be who you are, like you said." He shook his head. "I just meant that... It'd be better if you didn't hurt yourself. I do believe you're more interesting alive." She smiled a little at the end buit, maybe he cared more for her than she knew, perhaps Karuk would be her soul mate, the one freind everyone is supposed to have, the one that you can talk to for hours, spend ages together. She lowerd her head just as his muzzel brushed her forehead, leaving behind a tiny trail of tingling sensation. "Okay?" She bobbed her face gently, then rose to her feet, a little stiffly at first but soon pulled her self to her full height with a cat like stretch. She stood facing him, a little unsure how to react, keeping silent for the first time in a while. Though it didnt last too long, she sighed looked him in the eye and spoke softly. "I'm sorry Karuk, I.. she paused finding it hard to find the right words to say, this was very unlike her, she always had something to say. "I'm just not used to this company, not as much as you have given me, and like you witnessed i always ruin everyting, but your so forgiving, i dont know why you do it Karuk. She dropped her gaze from his, pawing at the ground with nervous tendancy. " Why do you not want me to be like Katarina? do you not really want to start a family? have ofspring? Cause i know i surely wouldnt mind having that part, give the child what i always missed out on.." her voice trailed of, seeming to be lost in thought. She hadnt really thought about starting a family untill she saw the ghost of Karuks first love, her mingled shape, the dead foal hanging from her ripped torso. Had this been what she was missing? The part of her that was undone? She glanced up to Karuk, watching him, hoping she hadnt pushed him too far again. Though he was very understanding, so maybe he would see that and not get to upset with her. She spoke, her words came inaudiable, like she wasnt really there anymore in mental form. "Do you not want a family...?"

She rose to her feet, silent as she thought. Karuk was silent also waiting for her to respond. He hadn't meant to offend her like he had and it saddened him to think that he had been so mean. She sighed, looking up at him and locking his gaze. "I'm sorry Karuk, I..." she trailed off and he waited patiently for her to find her voice. "I'm ust not used to this company, not as much as you have given me, and like you witnessed, I always ruin everything." He started to shake his head. No she didn't ruin anything, he just said the wrong thing. She continued to speak though, "But you're so forgiving, I don't know why you do it Karuk." She turned away and he took a small step forward, wondering what she had meant. How was he so forgiving? Because he saw that she was sincere inside, and despite everything he knew that she needed someone to look out after her, especially being an Alpha without the gift of an impossibly long life and the ability to live if struck with an otherwise fatal blow. She pawed at the ground and he could sense her nervousness. Why was she nervous? He touched his nose to her forehead again, wondering what was wrong. Though he pulled back when she began to speak again.
"Why do you not want me to be like Katerina?" He began to open his mouth to explain but she just continued talking, obviously having more to say on the matter. "Do you not really want to start a family? Have offspring? 'Cause I know I surely wouldn't mind having that part, get the child that I always missed out on..." Her voice trailed off again, the painted mare thinking. He was quiet as well, his mind turning. Was she suggesting that they... Have a foal? Of course he wanted to start a family, as she had asked him. He had never really thought about trying to do so with anyone else though, considering the fact he had never been around anyone else since that day; until now. She glanced back up at him and he looked back at her, not knowing what to say. Had she really meant that she wanted...? He was confused all over again. How did she do that to him?
"Do you not want a family...?" she asked, her voice soft as if afraid of what his answer might be. He closed his eyes for a moment, trying to gather his thoughts, but it was no use with her standing so close. If anything, it jumbled them more than before. "I..." he started but stopped, opening his eyes to look at her. He could see the desperation in her eyes, though it was a pleading for him to understand how she felt, rather than for him to give her what she wanted. That look went straight to his heart and it hurt to see it on her face. Did he feel the same way? A small part of his immediatly whispered No, Katerina, but a huge part overlapped that voice and said Yes. Why else would he stick around and help her out? He hadn't done that for anyone else. He kept saving her and he felt this need to be by her side for fear something bad would happen to her. He knew she could take care of herself, obviously for the fact that she was still alive without his help, before he had shown up. Why else would he still be here?
"Shika..." he said, stepping forward and burying his face into her mane. He closed his eyes and inhaled her scent; the smell of just her mixed with the smell of the snow she had been laying on before and the trees around them. It was like everything fell into place once he touched her, his world centering though his mind was still a jumbled mess of nothingness; hazy in her presence. how had he not noticed this feeling before? Was this what Katerina had meant when she told her to take care of him? Had she seen it before he had? He smiled into Shika's skin, of course she had. She had seen everything and had given Shika permission to be with him. He almost laughed, seeing that this moment was only possible because a ghost had said it was alright. Why had he wanted that? Was it some sort of earned forgiveness from her, for letting her die? Maybe so, but he didn't really care anymore. He was standing here with Shika right now and that's all tha mattered. She was his future.

"Shika..." His voice was distant in her mind once more, soon being brough back from her deep meditation as she felt his face ruffle up her mane. She turned seeing that Karuk had pretty much burried his head into her side. She gently touched him on the shoulder, gently nipping at his skin. She trailed her nose up to his withers then rested it there, tugging on his mane. She shifted her weight. His touch sent tiny electrical shocks all across her body. His touch felt could, the closeness of him was a relief of all the burdens she carried, forgetting everything but the fact he was standing so close, touching her in a way he had never done before, like she had never had before. Did this mean that he liked her in the same way? or was he just being kind before the big blow, that perhaps he didnt really like her enough, he was possibly still hung up on Katerina. Maybe she would never get her wish. If Karuk blew her of now, she didnt think she could ever love someone again. She reached over and brushed her nose along his cheek, "Karuk..? She questioned him, remebering he had actually said her name, but nothing more after that. Maybe he did really feel the same, then what? would they... would they just make a foal because of that right away? or would they wait a little, talk it over perhaps. She had no idea what were to happen now, she was a little confused, but also happy? "You wanted something right? you said my name but then nothing more she spoke softly, whispering into his ear, it didnt seem right to speak loudly at this point, they seemed to be having a moment, or rather he were, she already knew how she felt about him before, but not untill now did she realise how strong that feeling was for him. She could trust him, that was a huge step for her, he was always there for her, since that little meeting at the stream where she had acidentally run into him. She smiled remembering that day like it were just yesturday. Her nostrils falred as she breathed in, the warm air escaping infront her eyes.

Her muzzle trailed along his shoulder, up to his withers and lingering there, pulling at his mane. He sighed softly, relaxing against her gentle touch. He just lingered in the feeling, his eyes closed and his mind blank for once. The touch disappeared for a moment, only to reappear against his cheek. He leaned into the touch, though she started to speak again. "Karuk...?" she asked. "Mhmm?" he replied, sensing she wanted to ask a question. "You wanted something right? You said me name, but then nothing more." Her voice was quiet, directed straight into his ear. He smiled gently, hearing the uncertainty in her voice. He softly shook his head, his skin rubbing against her own before lifting his head to turn and look at her. "No," he started, touching his muzzle her her cheek in assurance, his eyes closing for a moment, "I said it simply for the fact that I wanted to hear it." He smiled, gently running his nose down her neck, lipping at the skin there and sighing softly into her warm body.
He stood there for a few moments, running his nose back and forth across her skiin, the hairs standing up and then being smoothed back into place. He paused, turning to look at what he could see of her face from this angle, remembering what she had said before. "In respose to your before question..." he sarted, turning away again and moving his nose back as forth as before. "Of course I want a family," he said, smiling lightly. He turned, stepping to stand next to her and running his whiskered muzzle back up her neck. "Are you sure you truly want one? So early?" he whispered, withdrawing his touch to look her in the eye. Yes, when he and Katerina had conceived, they had been just as old as she, maybe younger. Though it was not planned, it has brought them together in a way nothing else could have. But that love was not there before, only appearing with the formation of something fragile. This was different, much different, than then, but he was much more cautious with such a decision hanging in the air.
