A Hard Road Ahead

Ixori wondered if the mare's words were sarcastic or not. A spell on her? She eyed Vera suspiciously. Only innocent frankness was returned in the other's gaze, so Ixori let herself relax. No need to take offense at everything.
"Odd things trigger my happiness. And trust me it's a rare enough emotion," she said, a little more flatly than she had intended too. She did not mean to be hostile to this friendly mare, even if she was a little overly friendly. She would try her best to be friendly back, but overt friendliness did not come easily to her.
A warm breeze toyed with Ixori's mane, making her think of spring. It could not be far off now. Though the branches had yet to bud and the snow was still thick upon the ground, she sensed a coming change in the weather. Ah spring, glorious spring.

As the harsh words came from the other mare's mouth, Vera's head lowered slightly. She didn't mean to upset the mare anymore than she already seemed with herself. The warm breeze picked up her mane slightly, blowing it away from her body. Her eyes closed as she pictured the budding trees, green lush grass and the warm scents of spring. "Spring must be on it's way" Her light voice carried over to the other mare. With a quiet sigh she opened her eyes again and glanced to the other mare. She wondered what the other mare thought of her, well she wondered what anyone thought of her. She seemed all happy outside, but she wasn't. She was in constant battle with her thoughts, they tried to break her down and become weak. She knew she had to act like a different person that who she was inside, because if she did act like that, she would be insane. Of course she wasn't literally insane inside, she just had a lot of troubles since her mate passed.

Ixori sighed inwardly. What a sensitive mare. She had not intented her comment to be slighting, but by Vera's body language, she cold tell that she was either hurt or offended. She tingled to leave her and be done with this whole business. She did not like watching her step around others. She was so used to lashing back at cutting remarks directed towards her that she had trouble comprehending kindness.
It's a good learning experiance, she told herself inwardly.
Aloud, she said, "Yes indeed, and I am quite excited for it. Spring is a wonderful time of year, my favorite."
There, that had sounded pleasant enough.
"Do you have any plans for spring? Any travels or accomplishments you want to do, as the year beginngs again?" she added

The gentle warm breezes flew through the mare's mane as she tuned to the mare's words. Listening to the question in particular, "Do you have any plans for spring? Any travels or accomplishments you want to do, as the year begins again?" The fae pondered the thought of spring, there wasn't much in particular she was planning. "Nothing major, more of just a season to really find myself and who I am. I don't know many equines out here so I'm hoping to meet more also. How about you? Do you have any plans for the warmer season?" The mare looked over to Ixori and tilted her head slightly, a soft snort coming from her muzzle.
