» Keanu turned as he heard branches snap under the hidden equine's hooves. He snorted softly, turning to face the direction the sounds had come from. He looked down at the unconscious Raine, standing close to her. She had done so much for him already, and all he had done was make her faint from the wound he had inflicted. The least he could do was stay near her and protect her from any threats that may present themselves, even if that meant possibly hurting more creatures. He sighed quietly, forever conflicted.
» He returned his attention to the trees as a grey mare presented herself. She had a smile on her face as she stepped out of the shadows and into the drizzling rain. She was small with a delicate, arabian build. He remained rooted where he was, his head high as he took in the mare. "Hello," he said formally, nodding in acknowledgement of her presence. "Can I help you?" he asked, taking a small step forward, his muscles relaxing when he moved from his tense stance. He watched the mare carefully, not trusting her in the least.

Sheba She stepped forward into the clearing, her ghostly body approaching the stag and the mare on the ground. Shaking out her creamy mane, she laughed softly at his offer of help. In this kind of world, she lived for herself. Glancing at the mare, she saw the faint trickle of blood on her body and the stag's pained expression. Grinning wickedly to herself, she reveled in the scent of guilt that he was letting off. However, she knew first impressions were important, and it would not do for them to know all of her thoughts.
Arching her neck, she lightly pranced up to the pale stag. "Yes,"she answered,"you can help me. Honor me with your name." Sheba eyed the fallen mare. "And who is this?"She paused a few feet from him, resting weightlessly on her flinty hooves with an occasional swish of her long tail, waiting for his response.

» Keanu's ears pinned as the grey figure stepped into the small clearing, walking towards he and Raine. She shook her head, her locks shifting on her neck. She laughed at his words and he stepped back carefully, standing with his legs brushing Raine's back. She grinned and he could see that it was not an entirely happy grin. He swished his tail, waiting to see what the mare wanted.
» The mare bounced closer to Keanu, light on her feet. He took a deep breath, his leg twitching as he resisted the urge to put more distance between them. "Yes, you can help me," the mare replied to his earlier question. "Honor me with your name." she demanded, her eyes falling to Raine who still lay on the ground. "And who is this?" she asked, looking back up at him while standing a couple stride away.
» Keanu shifted his weight, eying the mare in front of him. She seemed rather odd and too friendly to be easily trusted. "Perhaps," he began, "You should be the one to introduce yourself first." He spoke carefully, watching the other mare and wishing she would back away. Her proximity made his insides cringe. He had not been around other equines in years and years, yet he had come into contact with two already since entering these lands. His nerves were close to the breaking point.

Only the strongest will survive lead us to heaven when we die Raine's ears twitched slightly, feeling herself come back to everything. Slowly, she felt the brushing of his legs against her back and the sounds of voices around her. Groaning once she moved slightly she forced her eyes opening, lifting her head up off of the ground. Annoyidly, she tried to stand on her legs, the rusty scent of the blood still filling her nostrils and nauseating her. But, not nearly as badly as before. Once she stood she took in the other mare, prancing slightly to get her balance before stopping and touching her maw to the stag's shoulder. She could feel how nervous he was. And she didn't need nerves right now. He needed to calm. "Calm." she said, "No need to panic. She doesn't show a threat, at least as of yet." she murmered, not having caught the conversation as of yet. So instead she spoke to the mare, "Who might you be?" Her blue eyes shining slightly in the tiny amount of sunlight that managed to weave its way inbetween the leaves. Flicking her forelock out of her face she awaited this mare's response.

Sheba Sheba was growing irritated with the fear she sensed radiating off of his body. This stag was too jumpy. Just like her mother had been. For crying out loud, it even felt like they were back in her past, hiding out in the woods. Sheba did not welcome those memories.
Pushing those thoughts out of her mind, she turned to the stag. "All right," she murmured, laughing again, "I am known as Sheba. Do not share your name if you do not wish to."Noticing that the mare was slowly rising, she faced he next. "And you are?" she asked before adding, "Unless you do not wish me to know your name as well...?"
Seeing the stag back away, she moved slightly closer.

» Keanu heard Raine move as she began to wake up. He turned his head to look down at her as she opened her eyes and forced herself to her feet. She shook out her muscles, becoming steadier as she reassessed herself. She brushed her muzzle against his shoulder, telling him to be calm. He had to agree, the other mare hadn't shown any sign of being a threat so far, but she also hadn't made him think otherwise either. He turned back to the mare in question as Raine asked who she was; he had in a way asked the same thing just a few moments before.
» Keanu flinched as the mare laughed again, finally introducing herself as Sheba. She stepped closer towards him and his legs began to tremble slightly, almost unnoticeable. He tried to keep his breathing even, thankful that Raine was up and he didn't have to worry about accidentally stepping on her. He did not like this other mare, there was something strange in her eyes that set his nerves on edge. "Keanu," he replied steadily, relieved that his voice did not waver.

Sheba She nodded in response. This was better. Not so much fear in the air. Now she turned to the mare. This one made her slightly uneasy, she seemed too calm and collected for what had just happened. She'd awakened to a strange new horse out in the middle of nowhere, and was bleeding from a wound. This situation should have been totally out of her control. Why wasn't she showing the least bit of discomfort?
Eyeing her more cautiously, Sheba waited for her answer. This whole situation was strange to begin with. She hadn't seen another horse in days, much less a herd, and she was beginning to wonder. What had happened to all of the herds? There used to be so many, but she had seen very few herds in the past year. She wondered if the war was building up again. Tension certainly was. So, with company disappearing like rabbits disappearing from a hawk's shadow, what were these two doing together in the middle of the forest? They certainly didn't look like mates, though she noticed that the other mare seemed protective of the nervous stag. Breaking the short silence, she inquired, "May I ask how you two happened to be wandering here? Are there herds nearby?"
"Pardon me,"she went on with a silky giggle, "but I haven't seen another horse in days, and was wondering if I'd finally found some company."

You need to believe it when I say that I am so so so sorry for the things I put you through Raine allowed herself to shake her pelt, forcing the tiny amount of flies away from her. "I go by Raine" she responded to the mare's question before cocking her ears and listening intently. "Both of us took refugee in a cave last night during the storm." she snorted once, feeling rather annoyed at the way this mare seemed to be acting. "No. I don't believe there are any herds around. Most seemed to have scattered and broken apart." she finished off, swishing her tail, leaning slightly against Keanu as she was still feeling a bit faint, the blood bothering her greatly.

» The mare nodded to him once he introduced himself, seeming to be a tad more satisfied now that she knew his name. She turned to assess Raine, whom seemed to not be bothered in the least that a strange new horse had appeared while she was unconscious. Raine seemed to be a calm horse, not bothered by most things. This confused Keanu, as most things concerning this mare did. Why was she so calm? It just didn't make sense. And the fast that she seemed to trust so easily, or rather that she seemed very friendly and ready to trust anyone that crossed her path. In times like these, with the lands split the way the were, you shouldn't truly trust anyone, especially a stranger.
» Keanu's mind refocused as the other mare started to talk again, asking if there were other herds nearby. She laughed, apologizing for the question, and explaining that she hadn't come into contact with any other equines in days, supposedly hoping that she would find company in he and Raine. He looked back to Raine as she introduced herself and explained how they had ended up here, since the other mare seemed so interested in knowing. She snorted, continuing to say that she had seen no other herds nearby, finishing her reply.
» Keanu couldn't remember seeing any other herds either, when he had been looking for a place to get out of the rain the night before. Most did seem to be far apart or completely nonexistent, reduced to wanderers like themselves. He gently shook his head, "I haven't seen anyone either," he replied, "although, I haven't been particularly looking." He felt Raine lean against him, probably feeling lightheaded again. He had hoped that maybe the light rain that continued to fall would dilute the smell of blood enough to where she would be okay, but apparently not enough.

Sheba They were more at ease. Good. Now, trust was the next step. Turning to face both of them, she felt comfortable enough to place her full weight on her hooves. There shouldn't be too much to fear from them. She'd keep an eye on the mare, and be cautious around the stag, but he seemed to be growing more confident by the minute. Bobbing her head at the mare's--Raine's--injury, she remarked, "That looks like a pretty painful wound. If you think that you'll be able to walk a bit, I know of a place where you could soak and cool it." The place she had in mind was back the way she had come, closer to the border, where water was more abundant. And besides, a journey would be good for them. Or for her anyway, she thought, flicking her tail at a pesky beetle. It would help her get to know them better--their likes and dislikes, their fears and insecurities. Yes, she decided, a short journey would be a very good thing.
--behind the post-- play nice, Sheba! sorry it's so tiny, I don't tend to write long ones. and there wasn't much to write about xD
