Take a breath and I try to draw from my spirits well, Yet again you refuse to drink like a stubborn child... The stag turned towards Shae, and took a small step back, as giving her space. He bobbed bis head lower and held it there. Though Shae merley glanced at him, before he adressed her, 'Just checking to see if the beautiful one was a weak and defenseless as I had presumed...' He said, his voice calm, almost affectionate, but not quite, she probably had imagined it. Shae's delicate head flew back to look at him. Beautiful One? Weak? Defenseless? 'But, alas, I have been proven wrong...' he added, shaking his body in a gust of cold wind. That was better. She was not weak, or defenseless. He took a few more steps back, and raised his head, his ears flicking towards her, and watching her intently. The coyote stiffened at her side, and Shae smile meekley. 'Beautiful? Why, thank you. Shae said, might as well as play along, right? A little hard-to-get... he didn't seem so bad after his attitude passed.
Shae took a step forward, towards the stag. Careful, Shae heared in the coyote's thoughts. Don't worry, Shae though, before coming to the stag. She started to walk around him, her tail running along his side, her muzzle brushing his neck softly. 'Now, if your going to take anyone, you'd have to take me.' Shae whispered as she passed his face, and she took another circuit around him, running her soft maw along his spine. After getting to his head again she nudged his neck, her tail dragging along his back and then she pranced swiftfully back to her coyote and turned to face him, a playful grin on her face. The sunrise made the sky a deep red color, and it made it hard to see her coyote. The coyote looked up at her, his eyes full of confusion. Shae watched him, waiting for his reaction.

LAOCH
Lao shook his head in confusion, watching the others. Why could they all see something he could not?! It was all so weird. Then the stranger stepped forward, nudging Repla. His ears pinned. "Stay away from her," he hissed. He snaked his head out towards the nameless stag again, daring him to come any closer. At his side, Repla whimpered, asking him in a tremulous voice why he could not see the coyote and the rabbit. "I'm not crazy!" she pleaded, looking up into his face. He lowered his head, touching her forehead gently. She would never lie to him. He must be the crazy one. "I believe you, Repla. But I can't see them." It was difficult for him to cause her pain, if only he could see them, but it was impossible. What was the matter with him?
And then, the new mare was prancing up to the stag, running her muzzle over his back, whispering something in his ear. Forget him; what was the matter with her? Did she have a death wish? He shook his head in confusion once more, growing anxious at this prolonged state of not knowing what on earth was going on. His demeanor, normally so calm, was growing agitated. "Repla," he murmured. "Help me see them..."

I've made up my mind no need to think it over, if I'm wrong I am right... Rhise let out a low laugh, running his muzzle along her spine as she passed him. "Ah. But my darling, that was the plan from the start," he said sarcasm dripping from his lips as he spoke. Shifting his weight he stood quite a bit taller, his wound still dripping with a bit of blood, staining his coat a dreary maroon color. It was slightly disheartening. But it was who he was. With a laugh he reared up a little, pulling on the wound and pinning his ears in dismay as he landed. It wasnt a huge wound but it would most definately decrease his mobility. "Maybe. You might grant me your assistance since your lovely little canine there has inflicted quite a great wound on my body. After all company is always welcome in the forest. And the dark is gone now. Just the cold sting of winter as it blows into our hands here." he said, a smirk upon his face though he wearily watched the glowing canine figure out of the corner of his eye...
[/blockquote] I never thought that you'd be the one to hold my heart. But you came around and you got me right from the start...
Repla shifted her weight, closing her eyes as he spoke. He didnt believe her to be crazy, but he couldnt see them. How could he not them? That simply didnt make sense. They were glowing animals. Glowing. Shaking her head she looked up to him. "Close your eyes, Lao. Close your eyes and imagine a blue, see-through bunny with light radiating from it, standing beside me. Imagine a coyote, blue and see-through standing at attention beside this other mare. Its glowing also. But its light is much stronger because it is bigger than the rabbit. Can you see them now Lao? Can you see them my Warrior?" she insisted attempting to walk him through the idea of these animals. These animals which everyone else could clearly see. Everyone except for him. Her spirit was slowly dropping and she wished for him to see these miracles. "They are our patronuses..." she said recalling a tale about certain horses souls being pulled out into another creature as a way to save them. So it was true, and she had one...

Without the mask where will you hide? Can't find yourself lost in your lie... The mystery stag let out a low laugh, running his maw along her own spine as she passed. 'Ah. But my darling, that was the plan from the start.' he said, sarcasm coming from him like a bucket of cold water. Her ears flicked towards him. He didn't have to if he didn't want to, Shae would prefer not, but she would offer herself to keep the other two safe. The stag looked back at his wound, and with another laugh reared up and pulled on the wound. 'Maybe. You might grant me your assistance since your lovely little canine there has inflicted quite a great wound on my body. After all company is always welcome in the forest. And the dark is gone now. Just the cold sting of winter as it blows into our hands here.' he said suddenly, a smirk on his face. The coyote let out a little snarl after the words slipped out of his muzzle. Calm, Shae thought, still watching the stag. Say no, say no, he is planning something. the coyote thought back. Shae flicked her tail, I can take care of myself pretty well, and Shae looked back at the stag. 'If you wish,' Shae said, with a smile smile on her maw. The coyote whimpered next to her, and he was getting harder to see as the sun rose higher and higher up. The coyote touched her leg, filling her with calm and warm. Shae took another step forward, and the coyote followed, it's eyes weary and catious.
'They are our patronuses...' Shae's ears flickered as she heared the other mare say this. Patronuses? That sounded familiar. Legends of a horse's soul being shared with a creature that was like themselves. So it was true, interesting. Shae's amber eyes looked back at the spotted stag. 'I'm Shaelir, by the way, or Shae.' she said, to the stag, but also to the other two horses that stood a few steps away. The coyote looked at her, I am your patronus, you may call on me whenever. the coyote said, smiling up at her, and touching her leg again.

Trustingly, he did as she said. Though he could imagine it, it seemed almost too fantastic to believe. Something from the tales of old, such as the one he had told Repla in the cavern with the underground river. The day they had first met...he had led her into such darkness, where she had been completely blind, but had trusted that he knew his way around...
"Repla," he sighed, brushing the forelock off of her face tenderly. "I believe that you're telling the truth. But, for some reason, I still cannot see these...these...these patronuses, as you call them. I trust you, just like you trusted me that day in the cave."
He ran his muzzle down her mane fondly, ruffling it gently. They would be fine. At least the other stag had distracted himself now with the mare, who seemed to be talking to him in a low voice. He had no idea what was going on with them, but he wished the mare the best. He didn't trust the stag's behavior, especially with winter approaching. The mare must have sensed him looking in her direction, because she spoke from where she stood, introducing herself as Shae. He nodded politely, replying, "Laoch." by way of introduction.

I was broken before I met you now I'm not stressing like I used to... Rhise shifted his weight. "As you wish." he mocked, swishing his tail swiftly as he moved forwards towards the two mares again. "You might enjoy calling me by the name Rhisidian though I prefer to go by Rhise." he said, dropping his maw down a little to the sad red roan and bumping his maw against her shoulder in a form of reconcile. "He doesn't understand, a real stallion would be able to see them. Someone like me." he said, affectionately - though it was more of a game to him than anything else. "You could come with me and see what it is really like to be with a man," he offered attempting to nudge her away from Lao.

Repla closed her eyes. "It's okay..." she murmured, feeling him brush away her forelock as he spoke. "I guess not everyone can see them..." she said, shifting in a bit closer and looking up at the stag who spoke. "I go by Repla..." she said quietly and then he moved closer to her. Bumping his maw against her shoulder she shifted and looked at him, as he spoke, seemingly affectionately. "I think a real stallion wouldn't be putting others down, my darling..." she said, sarcasm dripping off of her tongue as she said the words my darling. But, his next offer sent her reeling aback and she immediately hid farther behind Lao, not wanting to know what he was planning. Her little rabbit screaming at her in her head to get away. He wasn't safe. He wasn't safe at all. But, she wouldn't leave this other mare here. And she wouldn't leave Lao. She may be innocent, but she did understand that a fight was bad, and fight could leave Lao in a horrible shape. And if it did, she would be there to ensure that he didn't die. Because he couldn't die. She wouldn't let him die...

Confusion never stops, closing walls and ticking clocks, Come back and take you home, I could not stop, that you now know 'Laoch.' the stag next to the mare said, Shae nodded and then heared the other stag speak, 'as you wish.' he said, as if mocking her, even though she had said differently. She flattened her ears and the coyote hissed. He came forward, towards the other mare. 'You might enjoy calling me by the name Rhisidian though I prefer to go by Rhise.' he said, before dropping his muzzle down to the mare's shoulder. 'He doesn't understand, a real stallion would be able to see them. Someone like me. You could come with me and see what it is really like to be with a man,' he said, nudging her away from Lao. What a player, she had actually thought him some-what okay. Shae flicked her tail impatiently, raising it just the slightest. She could be taunting, and the coyote looked at her like she was crazy, as she held her tail up, yet facing away from him, and her eyes watched his moves.
'I go by Repla...' the small mare said. 'I think a real stallion wouldn't be putting others down, my darling...' she added, sarcasm dripping from her maw. Shae snorted and flicked her tail again. The coyote's hackles raised. What the hell are you doing?! Shae looked down at him. Just a few taunting tricks, and the coyote shook it's transparent head, and disapeared in a puff of smoke, only her thoughts filling her head. No! Come back! He's afraid of you! Come back! Shae thought desperatly, it was what he had watched wearily, and now her Patronus was gone, and he had nothing to be afraid of, even if it was just the tiniest fear. Please, please, come back. I need you now, I need you, you said you'd come if I needed you... Shae thought, arching her neck and scanning the clearing for her little coyote loping gracefully towards her, but nothing. The winter wind licked at her face, making her shiver slightly. At least there was no snow yet. Shae longed for the warmth the coyote provided, for the calm thoughts that numbed her mind, and the comfort it gave her knowing she had one, and having her Patronus at her side.

LAOCH
"He doesn't understand, a real stallion would be able to see them. Someone like me..."
The words floated out, a challenge hanging in the air. Normally so patient, Lao felt himself slipping, slipping, slipping...snap. It was all too familiar, feeling of not belonging, where everyone else obviously fit in and he didn't. He had told himself that he would be fine as long as Rhise didn't hurt Repla, but he was tired of this stag's obnoxious attitude and shameless flirting. In his mind, Rhise's dark spots swelled, expanding until they merged together, making a pattern of painted coats so familiar in his memory...
"Oh look, it's Laoch again. Hey Laoch, why doncha come over here and see how a real stallion fights?" "Yeah, why don't you stand up and fight? Too afraid?" The voices of his peers taunted him as he faced the mob of Paint youngsters. He could not escape this time. The leader, his would-be half brother, stepped forward, a smirk plastered on his smug face. "Oh brothers, it's not his fault. Not his fault that his father was a good-for-nothing rogue and that he couldn't fight to save his own life. After all, he's not one of us. It's simply not in his ancestry!" The explosive laughter reached his young ears, and his eyes narrowed. "I don't see why you're so spiteful about my father when you have nothing to be proud of in your own." He spat the words, jerking his head over the crest of the hill where their sire patrolled the mares. "What. Did you say, Outcast?" The leader's eyes shrunk to slits in his skull. "What was that about our father?" Before he could reply, they were upon him like a pack of wild dogs, tearing at him, pulling his mane, young muzzles gaping. He was weirdly calm, instinctively backing up the hill so that he was above them, using his stature to his advantage. He reared, striking them with his flinty hooves, making them pay for their constant torment. Making them sorry for what they had said about his father. About him. They would learn to leave him alone.
...and now, he didn't know what it was that brought this side of him to the surface, didn't know whether it was the weirdness of this place, or the color of the stag before him, the final insult to his character, or the approaching breeding season. He only knew that he was tired of this stag, tired of worrying about the mare who seemed to want to dance with death, tired of being here. If it weren't for Repla, he would have left them both to themselves long ago. He reared, seeming to have lost his mind, and charged toward the smirking appaloosa.

You showed me nothing but hate you ran me into the ground. But what comes around goes around... Rhise stiffled backwards as Repla basically snapped in his face about his attitude. Wishing he were a wolf he snarled slightly and shook his head. "Ignorant bitch..." he complained before swishing his tail and spinning around. He didn't understand why she wouldn't want to be near him, after all he was one of the best in the world. But, somewhere deep inside it hurt him. It hurt him deeply... Moving back towards the other mare he cocked his head, noticing that the coyote had disappeared completely from the scene. He help back a laugh and broke into a nice trot to her side where she was taunting him. Playfully he snapped out at her hindquarters, grabbing her skin and pulling upon it but not breaking the skin and causing it to bleed. No. He dare not ruin her coat like he had the red roan. That would get him killed more. "I see you want some of me though..." he said, nodding his nose up once and then returning it to it's original position. Then, quietly he circled her so that he was facing the group again, to the mare's right, just in time to see Lao bolting towards him, preparing to ram him over. He had a tree to his left, and the mare to his right. He couldn't move away without knocking over the mare. Pawing at the ground he also bolted forwards. "Time for a game of chicken..." he said, laughing a little, pinning his ears against his head and allowing his hindquarters to heave himself forwards with power that he didn't even know he had. It had been so long since war. And he swore he would never return to it. But, a few random scrimmages here and there could keep someone alive and healthy. He needed that. And he now had his own game right in front of him. Rhise didn't plan on chickening out. He would continue to ram at this guy, no matter how much of a headache he received afterwards. But, of course, he couldn't see that Repla would be right in his line of fire if he couldn't stop in time. So, he might just end up hurting the innocent in the process...
[/blockquote] Straighten up little soldier stiffen up that upper lip what you crying 'bout? You got me...
Repla stood there, watching Shae taunt Rhise. That was not smart. What on earth was she doing? She was going to get herself killed. KILLED. Fear struck Repla immediately at that thought. What was Lao doing? Why was he fighting? No. He needed to come back here. He reared up, fear rooting itself deeply inside of her soul. Quickly, the rabbit began to slide away into the forest, telling her to come with it. It was safer over here. She took one last look at the other three equines. "Lao... Please... don't..." she whispered, choking on her own words as she backed up. Her eyes gleaming with concern and fear. She needed to know that he wasn't going to die. He wasn't supposed to fight. His fighting years were over. He didn't even seem to enjoy fighting. But this Rhise had gotten under his skin. What was so horrible in Lao's past that he couldn't see the patronuses and that he would snap in situations such as these. "Shae... come over here now... it's not safe in the center of a stag fight... You can come back once it's over..." she said, taking the farther path over and nudging the mare's side before disappearing into the last bits of the shadows. Her heart pounding hard and fast in her ears so much so that it was all she could hear. "Don't get yourself killed Lao... I need you..." she whispered, blinking back the tears and trying to ensure this other mare's safety for as long as she could, even with her body shaking in panic and concern...

LAOCH
The blood pounded in his head as he saw Rhise rush to meet his challenge. He, ever flirtatious, had managed to get himself trapped between Shae and the tree, so he had no choice but to move forwards.
3...2...1...
Impact. They collided full speed muscles locked, faces set. Memories came back to him in which he was not the aggressor, but the defender. He pushed them aside.
The movements came back to him naturally, through force of habit he instinctively moved in a way that would shove his opponent off balance. Oh, he remembered. Laoch reared, rising sturdily on his hind legs, neck twisted weirdly as he reached for the stag's spotted hide. It may have been years, but the fighting was too familiar. Just as his teeth grazed Rhise's skin, the stag shoved him, attempting to throw him backwards and off balance. He steadied himself, but not before his previously injured leg gave a cry of pain. He dropped his front half to the earth once more.
Sensing weakness, the wild stranger moved in once more, striking a blow--hard--to the leg that had faltered. Bugling in fury, he twisted, putting his weight on his forelegs and sending a double-hoofed kick to Rhise's ribs. He heard the sickening crack of an injured bone, and it brought him to his senses. Catching his breath, he stopped and faced his opponent.
