Keanu shivered, sniffing momentarily before shaking his head and continuing his slow and lazy walk. He rolled his shoulders, a few kinks loosening and vertebra popping as he shifted his weight back and forth, his body relaxing as he trudged through the cold. The strange salamander floated next to him, the ghostly figure giving off some light in this darkness. The amphibian settled on his shoulder, skittering across his skin and clinging to his mane, leaving behind sparks of warmth where it's tiny fingers and toes pressed into Keanu's skin. Keanu paused at the edge of the large river, pieces of snow and ice falling into the fast paced water and being carried away. He sighed, his breath white in the air, as he turned to look behind him. It was as if the areas were all of a sudden deserted, and there was no one to be found. Had he missed something? Yeah, it was winter, and it was cold, but had everyone retreated into thier homes? Surely there was others like him, still out and about, right? He pawed at the ground, lipping at the snow and sneezing as it stuck to his nose. He shook his head again, his mane flipping against his face and stinging the cold skin there. Maybe he was just stupid, staying out here without finding some place to take shelter from the weather. He turned, trotting along the edge of the river, lost in his own thoughts. It was impossible for everyone to disappear, right?

Let us die young or let us live forever, We don't have the power but we never say never... Lia whisked her tail against her stomach, back and forth, back and forth, stinging just the slightest as it hit her pelt in the cold weather. Her cream-colored hooves crunched against the snow with every step. Her audits flicked forward when her patronus flew towards her, silent, as it landed on her withers and warmth spread through her body.
It was empty, too empty. Where was everybody? It was winter, all the mares in heat, but did they all sneak away with their mates? Lia didn't even have one, yet she only wanted company. Any other horses company. All of the horses had just dissapeared when winter started. The owl screached in her ear, making Lia jump and spray snow all around her. She pinned her ears, her heart pounding against her ribcage. What the hell was that for?! Lia thought, and the owl nipped at her mane. Horse ahead. Lia's audits flicked forward as she spotted another form. Another horse! It was about time! Lia picked up the pace, a trot, snow flicking up after her hooves as she drew nearer the mystery equine.

Keanu continued along the river, his head low as his scarred legs churned up the snow. Flurries flew into the air, circling around him. The patronus skittered back across his skin, along his spine and sitting on his pale rump. He then felt the odd creature dig into his skin, the outer gills flaying around it's head as it opened its mouth in a silent scream. "Other!" it said, quickly swimming through the air and burrowing itself into Keanu's mane. "We are not alone." The patronus had come into exsistence not long after that night when Ember had appeared, and it embodied all of Keanu's skittishness and fear of others. Keanu turned, twisting quickly to face the equine as it approached, the axolotl hissing with discontent. "No, we must flee! Away from the other!" It cried, disappearing from view though Keanu could still feel the warmth it left behind.
Though, when Keanu turned, his foot hit a patch of ice and it sent him sprawling into the river. The breath was knocked out of him immediately, the freezing cold soon following. He thrashed, trying to right himself, his body shuddering at the sudden temperature change. The air was nothing compared to the cold of the water. Nothing. The patronus reappeared, "We should have left! No we're going to die!" It disappeared again, leaving Keanu alone with the darkness of the water. The current was pulling at him and his energy was fading quickly, along with his air supply. He bucked in the water, though he truly didn't move very much, the icy water stealing his strength to fuel it's nasty grasp on his life. He managed to get his nose above the water, taking in a gasp of air before beginning to cry out for help, though the water crashed back down on him and he didn't have the change to make a sound.

Let the time, time pass, 'Cause we're never getting old... The other horse turned, looking at Lia, and suddenly went sprawling into the river. The owl lifted off of Lia's withers and screached, circling the sky above him. Lia watched in horror as he stuck his nose out of the water and went back under. She had to help the equine. Had to.
Lia galloped down along the bank, looking for a shallow area, spraying up big clouds of snow after her. The owl flew above the other equine. Lia spotted a shallow part of the river and splashed in, the water freezing her bones and splashing up her haunches. Her creamy mane and tail flowed out behind her as she went deeper. The stag was approaching and Lia braced herself, digging her hooves into the slippery rocks below. He slammed into her chest, a long thud echoed in her ears as she struggled to stay standing and recollect her breath, yet slipped and was pushed under by the weight if the stag, water filled her lungs and nose, stinging and the owl swooped down is fright, screaching. Lia caught footing on a log and pushed herself up. She grabbed the stag's mane and trudged up to the snow bank, pushing the stag up into the snow and collapsing, her lungs heaving and her body shaking in the cold, steam coming off her pelt as the freezing water hit the cold air. The owl swooped down and landed on her stomach, warmth tingling through her body. She shakilly stood up, lungs still heaving from the force of impact and getting him to the bank. She shook her pelt, mane and tail, trying to rid of the freezing water.
'You- You okay?' Lia heaved, coughing water out of her lungs, and some sprayed from her nose. She shuddered and her legs gave out, weak and shaking. Worn out and freezing all Lia wanted to do was close her eyes, but she struggled to keep them open, knowing she had to stay awake.

Keanu felt himself hit something solid and he struggled to find the surface. "It's the other! She is helping!" his patronus cooed, gliding through the water in erratic circles. "We will be saved! We will live!" Keanu wasn't so sure. He felt the mare pulling at his mane, his head resurfacing as he gasped, coughing and trying to inhale oxygen at the same time. The mare pulled him onto the shore, the snow stinging his already freezing pelt as he tried to pull himself out of the water. He coughed harshly, the water spewing from his mouth before he quickly breathed in and out, his lungs grateful for the air and his heart beating loudly in his ears. "You- You okay?" she asked, coughing also. He nodded quickly, "Yeah," he gasped, "Thanks." The mare fell to the ground, all of her strength drained from wading into the river. "Are you alright?" he asked, his body involuntarily shaking as his skin seemed to freeze even further. It was so cold he could almost feel his blood crystalize in the air. His patronus flittered in the air, landing on his foreleg and then slithering across his skin, leaving pinpricks of heat behind. He didn't think the small creature would be much help. He coughed, forcing himself to twist on the ground, moving to attempt to stand. They would surely die if they succumbed to the cold and their aching limbs. The mare had chosen to save him, now it was his turn.
He forced his stiff legs to work, pushing himself to his feet on shaky pink pillars. "Come..On. We can't...j-just lay here," he forced himself to say through chattering teeth. "W-we'll just f-fre-eeze alive."

Head under water And they tell me to breathe easy for a while The breathing gets harder, even I know that 'Yeah, thanks.' Lia heared him say as she collapsed. 'Are you alright?' he asked, and Lia shuddered, her pelt felt as if ice crystals. "I- I don't think so." Lia heaved, each breath felt pierced, forced, and constricted. Lia coughed again, water spraying from her mouth as it shook her whole body, and she forced her legs to raise her off of the snow covered ground as he did, her mind spinning and whirling in pain.
'We can't... j-just lay here.... W-we'll f-fre-eeze alive,' he said, and Lia nodded her head slowly, her limbs felt as if they were freezing, locking, into place. The owl spread it's wings over her withers, warming most over her body. Her eyes were deep purple, almost black, in fear, in cold. She felt ready to collapse again and she leaned against the trunk of a tree. The owl nudged her mane, brushing snow off of it that was now falling harder. There has to be a cave ahead, somewhere, ask the stag... she heared the owl think, and she sneezed and turned her head towards the stag. "Is t-there a c-c-cave s-somewhere close?" Lia stuttered, the words wanting to freeze in her throat. The owl quickly launched off her withers and swiftly swept away. Cold started to creep over her body once more and she tried to whinny after it, but only a puff of breathe came from her muzzle. Then the owl suddenly landed on her withers once more, warmth spreading through her again. There is. A cave, not even 100 feet away. Lia heared, and Lia swished her icy tail. "C-cave. A-ah-ahead." she said, and forced her muscles to work, to break through the cold and step forward. And another. Another. Then a few times more.
Her limbs started to move more freely the more she moved, and she could see the smallest opening ahead, sorounded with snow. She forced her way inside, and revealed a small, but perfect sized cave, and with the two patronus's heat radiating off the walls, her pelt started to dry, and her muscles starting to relax. The owl soared silently around, barely glancing the walls, spreading it's heat around the whole cave, and it easilly reached 75+ degrees. Lia's breathing became easier, smoother, and she only coughed once more before lowering herself down onto the warm stone and resting her head between her forelegs, and watching the stag. "Thank you, you probably just saved my life." she said, and her owl cooed softly, brushing it's wings against the stag's haunches and lifting back up to the top of the cave, in-circling them with heat fully again.

"Is t-there a c-c-cave s-somewhere close?" the mare questioned and he slowly scanned the trees, rolling his stiff shoulders in response, ""I'm n-not su-ure," he said. Keanu wasn't overly familiar with the area. He had been here breifly before, and had met the golden mare Rasta, but he hadn't stayed for very long, bending to his restless spirit and traveling on. The mare's own patronus, in the form of an owl, took to the air as his chattered inconprehenibly against his skin, clinging to the equine's legs as it settled on the pink layers that covered the stag's legs and warming them a little. The ghostly bird returned, "C-cave. A-ah-ahead." The mare started moving forward and Keanu followed, trusting that she was correct.
The snow crunched rhythmically under their feet, soon a black hole set in stone appeared. He sighed softly, moving a tad faster. The mare continued forward as well. Snow had fallen on each side of the entrance, making it small and cramped, but the inside of the cave was large enough for them both. He quickly lowered himself to the ground, pulling his leg up close to his body to help warm them. The scarred flesh was vulnerable to the cold, nothing covering the thin marks to protect them. He shivered uncontrollably, closing his eyes as the axolotl draped itself across his ankles; stretching out and yawning. He exhaled, the warm air hitting his skin and bouncing back against his face. His remaining pelt started to dry, the icy water evaporating with the heat of the ghostly animals.
"Thank you, you probably just saved my life." He shifted to look at the mare, blinking. The owl cooed, brushing against his hocks and then flying away. "Save your life?" He questioned, a confused look on his face. "I was the one who fell in the first place," he said, shaking his head. "No. It is you I should thank for saving my own life; however insignificant it may be." He snorted softly, his damp locks shifting and falling back across his face. "Why did you anyway? Save me, I mean. I don't even know you..." He stared back at her, his blue eyes dark with the lack of light in the cave. Though his pale pelt seemed to glow in the dark, reflecting what little light there was and the shimmering essence of the patronuses. His scars fell dark though, almost as if he had no legs as he lay against the stone floor.

You start a conversation you can't even finish it, You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything.... 'Save your life? I was the one who fell in the first place,' he said, with a quick shake of his head, 'No. It is you I should thank for saving my own life; however insignificant it may be.' He finished, with a small snort. Lia watched him, and gave him a small smile. It wasn't his fault...
'Why did you anyway? Save me, I mean. I don't even know you...' he questioned, and Lia cocked her head slightly. "What? Was I supposed to stand there and watch you drownd? I couldn't ever do that..." she said with a small laugh, flicking her stringy damp forelock out of her gold colored eyes.
Her gold eyes traveled down his legs, wrapped in pink, bare skin, and she recoiled slightly, and tried not to be rude by coughing again. She quickly looked back up to the brown patch covering his one eye. Scars. Giant, giant scars. wrapping and twirling around his legs, no hair. As if burnt completly off, unable to grow back. How did that happen? What had happened? Was it recent? "Er, I hope you don't mind me asking this, but, how did you get those scars?" Lia asked, softly, hoping he wouldn't be offended. Some horses were touchy around subjects like that. Such as Lia herself. Just one mention of her parents and her eyes would cloud over with a dark red, her demeanor and personality turning dark, sarcastic, and what you would call strange. She hated that part of herself, deeply, as thats what made her no friends, what made everyone whisper and call 'Freak!' as she walked past. Her eyes were turning a deep red and she shook her head, trying to clear the thoughts from her mind. She watched the stag, waiting for his answer, trying to hide her eyes so they could return to their usual gold. She reached her neck and itched her stomach on the side facing away from him., trying to force the horrible thoughts away....

"What? Was I supposed to stand there and watch you drown? I couldn't ever do that..." Keanu smiled half-heartedly and shifted along the ground, stretching his neck out along the floor. He supposed it was a good thing she had been there, but he didn't understand why someone would save him, even if it was just because they didn't want to see him drown. He didn't say anything else, for there really was nothing else to say. His patronus skittered across his skin, floating in the air for a short bit and then landing on his face. Cannot trusssst! it cried, a wailing sound and helplessly tugged at the equine's ear, though it's grip just passed right through. Keanu flickered his ear, ignoring the creature. It annoyed him with it's lack in faith, for he knew that it was not smart to trust everyone, of course, but someone who had saved his life? And the creature still was not willing to settle in the company of another? Keanu sighed, shifting again. The axolotl screeched to itself, floating across Keanu's form for a moment and then disappearing from view; unhappy.
"Er, I hope you don't mind me asking this, but, how did you get those scars?" Keanu lifted his head to look at the mare, glancing at his legs and then shifting his body once again; uncomfortable. No one had ever asked him before; he assumed because they were too apalled by the sight. He twisted his head away, burying his head against his chest. Though, when he spoke the words were not mumbled or inudiable. "Forest fire, quite a long time ago," he said, sighing softly into his skin. His ears twitched as speaking of it brought up small memories. He pulled his marred legs up closer to his body. "And now, it is nothing but a rememberance of the pain." The patronus reappeared, curled up on Keanu's hip and cooing softly. His external gills wafted in the air, extending and falling back against the ghostly body in tune with the sound. His small fingerlight projections contracted and released as he grabbed at the skin; even though he could not grasp it. The feeling was odd and the equine shuddered softly; the patronus then hopped to a foreleg and repeating the process. "I probably would have died," he continued, "But astonishingly, once I had accepted my fate in the river that day... I woke to find my legs healed- for the most part. Though, they still do not grow back the protection that was lost."

And I ran, I ran so far away, I just ran, I ran all night and day. The stag lifted his head at her question, then down to his legs, before shifting uncomfortably. He rested his head against his chest and spoke, 'Forest fire, quite a long time ago. And now, it is nothing but a remembrance of the pain.' he said, sighing softly. Lia watched him. A forest fire? Just as she had thought, burnt off. "That's horrible. I'm so sorry." she said, her eyes turning back yo gold. 'I probably would have died, but astonishingly, once I had accepted my fate in the river that day... I woke to find my legs healed- for the most part. Though, they still do not grow back the protection that was lost,' he finished, and Lia looked at him questioningly. They couldn't off just healed could they? There must of been a healer... right?! But, who?
Lia's head shot up at a large cracking sound, and the owl screeched. The wind howled, screeching in Lia's audits, and it felt as if it could break her ear drums. A fast, tumbling sound. The sound of a million hoofbeats, the sound of a million whips cracking, the sound of a million screeching screams. Lia screamed in terror herself, bolting upwards, but only to be thrown back onto the ground and skid across the rough floor, and it burned. Burned like hell. Rubbing a layer of skin off her pelt and leaving behind dirt and debris. Lia whimpered, her breathing rough, course. The cave was slightly darker and her body shook in fear and in loss of energy. She lifted her head weakly, her whole body shaking tremors. It fell with a thud to the floor and the owl was still screeching, and it landed next to her head. Lia? Lia! Lia?! Are you okay? What hurts? LIA, it thought frantically, and Lia moaned, shivering and shaking, her limbs tangled together, her right hind leg ached and throbbed, and she screaming in pain. Her lungs felt pierced, and each breath got harder and harder. She raised her head again, nothing was poking out of place, but felt as if they were bursting through her flesh. Lia screamed again, it came out strangled, odd, a muffled by the pain constricting her throat. Hell, her whole body ached, and she let out a moan with every breath, each one more and more constricted, harder and harder. Her owl fluttered and twitched nervously, it was fading also, and screeched worriedly. Lia coughed, blood running down her nose, and her throat burned, Lia writhed in pain, her side starting to sting again, worse. The owl stared at her, it's eyes clouded with worry. Lia's thoughts turned to the stag. Where was he? Was he okay? Was he... dead? The owl looked at her and shook it's head no to her last comment. Good. Her whole body ached, burned, and throbbed, and the cave was slightly darker, and Lia saw that it was closed off by snow. An avalanche. How hard was it packed in? Would they be able to get out? Did they have enough air? Would they survive?
