Keanu chuckled softly to himself, shaking his head. "It is not your burden to be sorry about," he said, the patronus falling silent for a moment in agreement, nodding it's glowing head before continuing it's cooing melody. Keanu turned, moving his head to look back at the other equine. He was about to open his mouth to ask her a question when the rocks around them seemed to shudder. He paused, ears flickering as flashes for the earthquake earlier that year entered his mind; and even sooner, the strange occurences just a few months ago. His ears pinned as the rock split with a resounding crack and many things happened at once. A thundering sounded from above and caused pebbles to fall from the ceilng, then the entrance was blinked out of existence, leaving the cave in darkness. Keanu jerked, pulling his feet up underneath him but he was thrown off balance and into the sharp walls. He gasped as the surface sliced at his vulnerable skin, the pain sharp and immediate. A scream echoed through the cave, heard over the roar of what could only be an avalanche. He was thrust forward, skidding across the rough ground and he grunted, trying to remain still as to not cause himself any more harm. He shifted, hearing the mare in pain and searching the darkness of the cave. The patronuses let off a little light, for they still glowed though the moon was not present to shimmer through them and provide the essence needed to see them clearly. He shuddered, wincing as he moved his legs underneath his body, the ground slick with blood as he twisted, trying to right himself.
Keanu could hear the cries of the owl guide, followed by a moan. So she was alive? She screamed and he started, the sound loud in the sudden silence that followed the crashing. He skittered to his feet; or at least tried, for the first attempt landed him back on the ground as he slipped on the wet surface. She screamed again, this time the sound was distorted, as if something was blocking the sound. He forced himself to his feet, wincing against the pain and he took a step towards the sound. "Hello?" he asked, his voice loud and echoing off the walls as the rumbling died away once again. He was uncertain as to where the mare was, though he hoped she was alright. His patronus appeared, bouncing through the cave and searching; casting a blueish white tint against the walls and groung, lightly illuminating the area around it. It crooned loudly when it found her, Here! it called and Keanu twisted around, limping over to where the mare lay against the stone floor.
"Are you alright?" he asked, descending to the ground in front of her as his legs trembled and gave out. "Where are you hurt?" He amended himself, knowing that she couldn't have screamed like she did unless something was horribly wrong. He glanced at the owl patronus, seeing the strange ghost-like creature laying on the ground, it's light even lower than that of his own. He then looked in the direction he thought the entrance was supposed to be in, though the darkness betrayed no secrets and the opening was completely covered. How far was it covered? And how thick? How long would the be stuck here, freezing to death or dying of other ways before the cold could claim them? He turned back to the mare, who's name he still did not know, and hoped that whatever was injured was not unmendable. "Hello?" He asked quietly with the lack of a reply from the mare. He winced, gently nudging the equine. "Come on, stay here, in the present. What hurts?"

Poppin bottles in the ice, like a blizzard Lia faintly heard his words, her head throbbing, aching, pounding. Stop, stop Lia screamed in her head, in so much pain it hurt to writhe anymore, and she froze. 'Are you alright?' The words were faint. She wanted to answer, needed to, but couldn't. She could feel his heat as he lowered himself down next to her. 'Where are you hurt?' he said, his voice growing more and more worried. Lia tried to open her mouth, flick her ears, anything. Something sickly warm felt as if it bubbled from her forehead. 'Hello?' his words. Worried words. Lia was screaming in her head, I'm here! Help me! My head! My leg! Help! she repeated, but no words came out. She felt the slightest nudge, but just barely, all the other pain forcing the feel of his soft maw brushing against her pelt.
She wanted to scream, scream as loud as she could. The pain numbed her body, and it was worst in her head and leg, the pain in her ribs subsiding, it was nothing compared to this. She longed to part her lips, to scream, scream till she couldn't no more. But no. She lay there, her whole body aching, twirling, throbbing. Darkness started to take over and she shoved against it. No. She would not go under, would not die. The dark pressed itself harder against her, shoving, as she stumbled and fell unconscious.
The smell of lush grass filtered through her nose. The long grass itself swaying just below her knees. The soft sounds of hooves on the fresh soft dirt came to her ears, and she smiled, watching all the other horses. Suddenly, the sounds of millions and millions of hoofbeats in perfect sync. Her audits flickered toward the sound, and she stretched her neck, straining to see what the sound came from. The sound louder and louder. Coming from the dense forest. Lia screamed. It had started. It. Was. War. A loud thud echoed in her ears, and she felt herself connect with the ground with a huge force, almost nocking her out. She huffed, and jumped up. Rama thundered around, his white, red, and black form terrorizing everyone. Lia screamed mingled with all the others, blending in. Adrenaline pumped through her veins, and she reared up, slashing out with her sharp hooves, which sliced a thick pelt easily. Blood spattered up her, and she reared up again, forcing all her weight down upon the horse's spine, her hooves piercing through again. Crack. The horse's limp body fell to the ground. Tears blurred Lia's sight, she didn't want this. She couldn't do this. The burden of the dead horse weighing her down. Another horse reared up, mad, malicious victory glinting in it's eyes, aiming for her cranium. Lia screamed and leaped out of the way, and the horse's hooves connected with her ribs. She screamed out in pain, heaving. The horse stepped forward, ready to kill her off. It reared, it's hooves coming closer, taking a sharp turn and landing on her hind leg-.
A scream finally filtered through Lia's maw as she came back, shoving the darkness into a cage. Her head and hind leg still throbbing. She heaved, her breathing forced, rough. She lay there, watching the stag, her audits flicked towards him. The warm substance was not bubbling from her forehead anymore, and was crusted to it. Not as much pain as before, but still bad. Terrible. She would be fine though. Eventually. She had not been certain when she could not even move. But she had already healed a little, a little of the pain dissolving, still lingering though. What about the stag? Was he okay?

She still said nothing and it worried him. Did pain follow him everywhere? That was as it seemed. Though this couldn't possibly be his fault, right? He sighed softly; at least he could still hear her heart beating. That had to mean something right? At least she was still alive. Though, how much pain was she in to have fallen silent? The rapid thumping started to slow and he shifted quickly, nudging her shoulder. No, she couldn't die! Though the breathing leveled off in a steady rthymn and he paused, relaxing a tad. Had she fallen unconscious? At least if she was feeling any pain, in that state she wouldn't any longer. Though he hoped she really was okay. He couldn't bear the thought of her being majorly wounded and he not being able to do anything about it. He already felt so helpless as it was. He shifted, laying his head and neck across his forelegs as his ears flickered, listening to her breathing. She had to be okay. His leg throbbed where the rock had cut him and he shifted his weight across the ground, pulling it up closer to his body; though he felt the sticky liquid smear across his pelt and he grimaced, closing his eyes and sighing once again.
He was startled awake by a scream, immediately forgetting where he was for a moment, jumping up and scrambling to the side, only to slip and fall with a nicker of pain. His injured leg twisted underneath him and quickly turned in the other direction to alleviate the pressure and keep the fragile bones from snapping. He winced, biting his lip to prevent the whimper that was crawling up his throat. He took a deep breath, rolling to the side and shifting to attempt to bring his legs up under him. He coughed, shaking his head before pushing against the soiled rock floor. "Are you alright?" he asked for perhaps the tenth time, remembering where he was and the situation around him. He hobbled forward, nose brushing against warm skin as he found his way in the ill-illuminated dark. "You screamed again... What hurts?"

I need another story, Something to get off my chest... Lia heaved, pain radiating through her veins. The stag had fallen asleep next to her, and she saw his head jerk up as she woke from the dark. He scrambled up, yet slipped and fell, nickering in pain. 'Are you alright? You screamed again... what hurts?' he asked, inching over to her. Lia licked her dry lips, trying to heave herself up into a better position. She shifted uncomfortably, unable to move much with the pain, she layed her head over his withers, and forced her legs under her, then leaned against the wall, her pelt cooling against the stone. "I- I don't know. My head, hind leg, and my ribs were hurting before, but not very much anymore." Lia replied, lifting her head off his withers and resting it against the wall. The owl started to hoot softly, it's light returning, filling her with warmth as it swept onto her back. Lia looked back, her head felt faint, light, as if she could pass out. Dizzy, she rested her head on the ground, trying to calm her breathing. The pain was subsiding, yet still ached and throbbed.
They needed to get out of this cave, though Lia was not in any fit to move. They needed help. Needed food. They had water from the snow. But Lia was already growing hungry, the dive into the river, the trek through the snow, and now the avalanche had drained her energy, making her body but that much weaker. As the snow melted, the slightest of light filtered through, and Lia stretched her neck, her maw sniffing the fresh air. The sound of the river flowing started to reach her audits and she sighed. Would they be able to get out of here? Would they be okay?

He felt something brush him and he twitched before realizing it was the mare, her cranium resting across his back. He felt her muzzle brush his pelt as she spoke, "I- I don't know. My head, hind leg, and my ribs were hurting before, but not very much anymore." Keanu's head had found its way to the ground as he listened to her; the pressure of her head against his skin disappearing as she shifted on the ground. The owl patronus appeared, it's glowing brighter now as it glided down; hooting. Keanu's own patronus was sitting against his stomach, lips opening and closing and gills floating around it's head. He heard the mare move again, her head resting on the ground as his was. The stone was cold to the touch, refusing to collect body heat and warm itself, even after touching it for a period of time. He didn't know how long they would last in here, in the dark, in the cold; without food. And who really knew how bad their injuries were? Even thinking about it, his leg throbbed with a new intensity and he winced, shifting his weight slightly in an ineffective way to try and relieve the pain. He truly hoped he hadn't pulled something, and that the wound was superficial; though he knew it most likely was not. He just kept reinjuring the limb; he couldn't even remember the last time he was completely healthy. It had been quite a while.
"I'm Keanu," he said, finally introducing himself. After all that had happened, it seemed funny that they still didn't know each other's names. I felt as if it was forever ago that he had been casually walking alongside a river, only to fall in and now an avalanche? All in how much time? A few hours, possibly? He was tired, though his mind was running around with everything growing fuzzy around the edges. Should he be falling asleep? Would he wake up? Nobody knew they were trapped out here, and they most certainly wouldn't find them with the entrance the cave completely blocked in. Should he be trying to free them? Could that really wait, or should he be doing something right now? His mind was muddled and his bones were aching, muscles tired. He sighed softly, shifting across the ground, scarred tissue brushing against long winter fur. "Sorry..." he murmured, pulling his legs up underneath him. He curled his head around to rest next to his knees, his body wanting to sleep but he was unsure if he could calm his mind for the action. His patronus, having disappeared with all of Keanu's moving, reappeared in the air, it's glow illuminating a small portion of his body and casting light against the mare's form as well, his eyes shining blue in the darkness that surrounded them.

Well I'm gone, but I'm trying to give you the life that I never had Lia pulled her legs in closer to her body, shivering slightly. The owl hooted softly and laid it's wings across her withers, Lia flicked her forelock out of her gold eyes and snorted softly, the realization of this whole thing starting to kick in. They needed to find help, no one was going to look for them, or at least not Lia, Lia had not been with other horses for a while. The owl lifted off her back and soared through the small opening the sun had melted. Lia snorted worriedly, standing up, her legs shaking tremors. She lowered herself down again, hoping the owl was going to look for help.
'I'm Keanu,' the stag said, and Lia shifted her body to look at him. "Laelius. Or Lia," she said, realizing they just learned each others' names. She gave him and small smile and place her maw between her forelegs. Maybe this stag wasn't like the others, maybe she was starting to gain a true, trusting friend. He sighed and shifted his body, pulling his scared legs underneath, brushing against her. 'Sorry...' he said, and Lia lifted her head, "It's fine," she said, touching her maw to his withers momentarily before resting it against her forelegs again.
Lia's eyelids started to grow heavy, but she forced them to stay open, to keep her breathing calm and collected. The owl still had not reappeared. Where are you? Lia though, hoping for a response but getting none. She sighed and ran her maw across her shoulder, it was aching ever-so-slightly. She watched the snow melt drop by drop, drop by drop. The sun was starting to fade, and it must've been afternoon, and it would be night soon. Lia thought back to when she watched Keanu slip and fall into the river, which was only mere hours ago. And then the avalanche, was that a coincidence? Or did another equine- or animal- casually cause it, or even purposefully? Would another equine do that? Maybe one of her old herd members? She had not seen any of them in, well, years, so she would be surprised if it had been one of them. Her eyelids soon started to feel like weights, and she was pushing back against them, forcing them to stay open. But, oh, just one little shut-eye time... she suddenly forced them back open, she would not fall asleep. Would not. What about Keanu? Was he okay? She glanced at him, wary, and it looked as if he was forcing himself to stay awake too.
Lia shifted against the rock wall, both of them couldn't fall asleep! Lia rested her head against the cool wall, trying to shock herself so she would be more aware. Her eyelids drooped, and she was considering kicking herself, maybe even a bite. That would keep her awake, right? Maybe, the owl could help, yet, the owl was not here, and Lia's thoughts wandered back to where the owl could be, and what it could be doing. She hoped ever so dearly that it was finding help... help for her and Keanu. Keanu, the stag, and- Lia gasped slightly, tucking her tail in closer to herself. It was winter... in a confined space... with just her and a stag. Winter time. How had she forgotten?! He must have a lot of patience and resistance laying right next to her. Lia shifted awkwardly, trying to keep her heart beat down, her breathing calm. She had not been with horses in for so long, and now, in winter. Where are you?! Where did you go?! What are you doing?! Lia thought desperately, yet the stag didn't even seem to notice, or look like he was trying to resist. He probably hadn't noticed.... Lia's body relaxed, and she drooped her head to her forelegs again, her heart beat receding and her breathing more easy, natural.
Lia heard loud crunches of snow, and she tensed up again, her eyes wide in shock, her audits flicked towards the small opening. Lia sniffed, and her body froze. No. They were being hunted. It smelled like... bear. There was not many bears in Forma Silvestris, but this one of the few had managed to find two trapped horses, unprotected. At least he shouldn't be able to get through the small opening. Unless he dug. Those sharp claws would easily widen the small hole. She started to hyperventilate, her eyes rolling, listening to the heavy foot falls of the bear. At least it was only one. Or, was it more then one? She listened, straining her ears, she could only hear the rough breathing of one, that one off-tone heartbeat, but she could be wrong, her flee instincts high. Though she couldn't flee. The cave was small, and with the both of them, theres was little space left. Lia glanced at Keanu, wondering how he wasn't freaking out like she was. Was she just over-reactive?
The footsteps were too close. Too close. Waaayyyyyyy too close. She could hear the raspy breathing and she shrunk down, heart thundering against her ribcage, adrenaline pumping through her veins. She pressed her face to Keanu's shoulder, scared as can be. Sniffing. Lia could hear it sniff, could sense the excitement as he drew nearer and nearer. The footsteps stopped. Lia froze, the breathing sounded as if it was in Keanu's place. A whimper escaped her lips, and she sucked in her stomach. A black nose stuck it's way through the small opening, and Lia's throat constricted, stopping the squeal that tried to force it's way out. Her body shook tremors, and she pressed her body against Keanu's. She was plent awake now....

"Laelius. Or Lia."She introduced herself after standing on shaky legs and then laying down once more. At least she was not hurt so bad that she could not stand. That said something. Her owl patronus had left the cave through the small opening that had melted in the sun. Though that sunlight was rapidly disappearing as the time passed, the day growing older. He was not looking forward to the night, when all heat would be gone and the cave would grow colder. At least the would be out of the wind, but it would be like sitting in an ice box, and he wasn't sure how well that would work for them, already shivering as it was. She pressed her muzzle to his withers, but he wasn't paying enough attention to realize why and his skin twitched as her met it, though she withdrawed quickly and he could only be glad that his nerves hadn't made him jump, possibly further injuring himself.
He glanced over at the mare, Laelius; Lia. He could tell that she was having trouble staying away, just as he was. It worried him. What would happen if they both fell asleep? Would they freeze during the night, their dreams becoming the last conscious thought? Keanu almost shuddered at the thought, surely his dreams would not let him truly sleep. They never did. His mind conjured such grusome thoughts and actions, memories and fears, that he wasn't sure that sleep appealed to him much any more, as it had just moments ago. Though, the nightmares had been less frequent lately, and he had been able to sleep soundly a few times, when he actually allowed himself to sleep; but with the proximity of the mare, he was sure that his dreams would be anything but calm and restful. Surely Ember would make an appearance and he would wake tired in the morning. It would be most unhelpful for him to fall asleep, it seemed.
And what if something found them in the cave? Or someone happened to walk by while they slumbered? The former would not end well, he assumed. Depending on what creature decided to sniff them out, finding them defenseless in this small space and taking advantage of it. If they were both asleep, surely they would both die, if for anything but the fact that they would be slow to react. And the latter? If someone were to actually walk by, though the chances were slim he knew, if it did happen and they were both sleeping, they wouldn't be able to alert the equine to thier predicament, leaving them to further suffer in their situation with no hope of seeing the outside world again. No, it would not be fitting for them to both sleep, though if one were to slumber it would be best if it was Lia, because at least it would have some benefit for her, he supposed. His nightmares would do more harm than good. He turned his head, opening his mouth to tell her that she could sleep if she wished, but she gasped, as if frightened about something. He lifted his head, suddenly alert. "What is it?" he asked, glancing around the cave once and then settling his gaze back on Lia. She relaxed though, setting her head back on the ground, not answering him. He remained confused for a few moments longer before turning away also, lowering his head to the ground as she had and choosing not to push for an explanation.
A few moments later he felt the tension level in the small space spike up and he lifted his head again, seeing Lia expression. He turned to look at the opening, ears flickering as he heard the crunching of foot falls in the snow. He tensed as well, nostrils expanding to discover the source of this sound. It was not equine, that was for sure. A muskier scent of bear. He gulped, glancing back at Laelius and seeing her paniced gaze. His head whipped back as he heard the bear shuffling around outside the cave. He sent a silent plea that the creature would find nothing interesting and leave them be. He felt Lia press her face into his shoulder, and he didn't flinch away. He was too focused on what the bear was going to do. His heart thudded in his chest so loud in his ears that he was afraid the bear might be able to hear it. Lia froze against him as the footsteps paused, a small whimper forcing it's way out of her lips. He shifted noiselessly, watching the small hole that had formed from the sun as a shadow passed in front of it. A nose peeked through and he sucked in a breath, the nostrils of the bear expanding as it sniffed the air. Surely it was thick with the scent of blood, though Keanu could no longer smell it. He felt Lia move closer to him and he could only hope that the bear would leave them be, leave them alive, though his hope was short lived as the bear licked it's lips, withdrawing from the hole and a claw appearing in place of the nose.
He carefully but quickly rose to his feet, looking down at Lia and silently telling her to do the same. His leg ached and he had no idea how they could possibly get out of this. The bear pushed at the snow, claws leaving sharp indentions where they had scraped past. The axolotl patronus appeared, floating in the air, a worried expression on it's face. Perhaps I could distract the narrow minded beast? It asked, it's voice thoughtful and heard by both equines. Keanu was about to object, but then pondered the thought. The bear couldn't hurt the patronus, he couldn't even touch it. And if the bear cleared the entrance to the cave before, and then was lured away, they could escape. He nodded once, the ghostly figure disappearing from view only to reappear at the other end of the cave, carefully out of the bear's sight and waiting for the opportunity to wander out.
The hole got larger, soon big enough for them to fit through, one at a time. The axolotl quickly moved forward, bouncing in the air and the bear snorted, a growling sound. It's shadow quickly disappeared from view as it turned away and Keanu quickly, and as quietly as he could, moved to the entrance. He peeked out, seeing the bear on it's hind legs and trying to capture the patronus, and failing. He turned back to Lia, smiling softly before quickly exiting the cave and moving in the opposite direction. He looked behind him, seeing the mare following. Then he silently cursed, seeing his footprints tinged with red. He needed to at least rinse his leg in the river, though that thought made him uneasy. If they were to cross the river, the bear would be less likely to follow, but again, the thought made him uneasy. "Come on," he whispered. The least they could do was put some distance between them in the bear. His leg should stop bleeding soon enough, and hopefully the bear would not follow them.

'What is it?' The words, whispered, came from Keanu. The words caught in her throat, and she watched the bear retract it's nose. The strange patronus spoke, perhaps I could distract the narrow minded beast? Keanu seemed to ponder the idea, and gave it one small nod. It floated towards the entrance and hovered there. Lia slowly rose to her feet as Keanu did, her ears drooping in fear and she watched the bear's big paws dig the snow away. Lia shifted silently, her thoughts running wild. What are we doing? Will we be able to escape? Can the patronus hold the giant bear off? Her eyes focusing on the giant form of brown fur as the opening grew wider.
The patronus shot out and the bear's curious form followed after it. Lia sighed, and Keanu walked to the opening, sticking his head out. Lia followed, turning her cranium and seeing the bear raise onto it's hind legs, trying to capture the small creature, his paws closing down upon the ghostly figure, yet only to go threw it, and opening them, then repeating the process. Lia had an urge to laugh, yet she stayed silent. Keanu turned and smiled at her, and slipped out, Lia following silently after him. Blood trailed behind Keanu's footsteps, leaving a few prints bloody. He cursed quietly, yet kept walking. Lia took a few long strides, catching up to his side. He was thinking about something, Lia could tell. He glanced at the river, and Lia knew. They needed to cross the river. Lia started to turn that way, and a brown figure flashed in the corner of her eye. She stopped and turned her neck slowly, fear running through her body as she watched the bear loping after them, bored with the patronus, which was flashing in front of his face trying to distract him. The whites of Lia's eyes flashed and the bear growled, flashing it's teeth. Lia reared up, shaking her mane, her front hooves thrashing.
A screech of an owl reached her ears, and she landed back on all fours, the owl swooped down in front of the bear, passing through him. The bear stopped, shivered and growled, annoyed. It thrashed at the owl, it's giant claws passing through it. The owl screeched in it's ear and circled it, the bear spun and thrashed, trying to capture the owl. Lia shook her head, and turned to Keanu. "We need to go, now," she said, while thinking a silent thank you, to her patronus. The bear was easily annoyed, and just ran after them faster. Lia whinnied, rearing up again, almost falling backwards. She landed in the snow hard, and it jumped up, spraying her. Lia bolted, blinded with fear, shrieking, "Run! RUN! Keanu, run!"
Lia churned up the snow beneath her, and it was spraying everywhere. She felt her powerful muscles push and pull underneath her, forcing her body onwards, faster and faster. Her ribs screamed, fighting her, making her breathing harder, but she shoved the pain in the back of her mind, all her will focused on escaping the bear. She could hear Keanu's labored breathing. Hell, her breathing sounded strangled. She glanced back, the bear was still close, "How the hell is that bear running that fast?!" Lia exclaimed, annoyed. She pushed her legs hard, she felt as if she could fly, and she turned and banked towards a narrow part of the river, planning on jumping it. She reached closer, her legs flying wildly underneath her. She reached nearer and nearer, the bank, the idea of what she was actually doing not registering in her head yet.
Lia reached near the bank, easily side-stepping a very icy patch. She launched herself into the air, pushing as hard as she could with her hind legs. She was soaring, flying, her mane and tail whipping in the wind as she pulled her legs in close to her body, her body started to drop. Damn gravity. Lia thought, watching as the icy river came rushing up to meet her body. She dropped her legs, and her knees buckled as she landed, slipping and sliding, trying to remain upright. Her hooves clacked against the ice, and the ice made loud cracking noises. No, no no no, don't crack, don't crack! Lia thought desperately, skittering across the ice, the sounds of Keanu also trying to remain upright came to her, and she glanced back, her own mask of fear placed on his face. Lia slipped, the ice cracking, slowly, and she skittered, trying to get to the other side of the bank. It seemed as if she ran in slow motion, and she strained her muscles, pushing her legs down upon the ice, trying to move forward as fast as she could. Her hooves finally reached the soft powdery snow, and she heaved herself up of the ice. Keanu just barely reaching the bank in time, and the ice cracked into many tiny pieces.
Lia watched the bear reach the bank on the other side of them. It roared angrily, and Lia prayed it wouldn't try to come after them. It stuck it's big paw into the freezing water and bared his teeth, pulling it out and shaking it. Lia sighed, huffing, her breath rough and course, and she stood there, trying to catch her breath in case the bear decided to come after them again. She looked at Keanu, and she swished her tail, watching him and the bear at the same time. "Are you okay?" Lia asked, hoping the run did not affect his leg at all, and if it did, not too much, because they needed to move on and find another shelter before night fell and the temperatures dropped below zero. THe thought made her shiver, and she shook her body, trying to shake the snow off of her.
The owl soared and passed right below the bear's nose, then circled and flew towards Lia, landing on her withers and spreading warmth through her. Lia smiled, thank you, really, Lia thought, and the owl hooted, nudging her with it's beak. Lia looked at the other patronus and nodded her thanks to it too. The probably would not of made it out of their without both of their help. Lia turned and touched her maw to Keanu's neck, smiling. She didn't know what to say, thank you didn't just seem right.

The bear was suddenly uninterested in the fishy patronus, and when Keanu turned to look, the large dark mass was moving toward them. Thick fur was shifting back and forth, mouth open wide, teeth gleaming and clows digging into the ground. The creature growled, the axolotl trying to distract the bear again but it was no use, he and Lia had been spotted. The mare had come to the same realization, lifting herself into the air in fear. The owl patronus appeared, screeching and swooping down towards the bear, traveling through it. It paused for a moment, but the action seemed to anger it further, reaching for the owl and only passing through it's ghastly form. Lia turned to him, saying that they needed to go. He nodded a few times, though his eyes were still locked on the bear as it turned back towards them. It picked up a faster pace than before, and Lia spooked, rearing once again and almost loosing her balance. The snow sprayed up, light and airy, as she landed, swirling in the cold draft that was present and stinging Keanu's already cool skin. Lia bolted forward, telling him to run and he was still for a few moments longer before he quickly pivoted and followed suit.
Keanu ran, legs stretching as far as they could, hooves sinking into the deep snow with each stride, threatening to throw him off balance but he impossibly stayed upright. He forgot about the pain in his leg, the pain of the cold, everything, and just focused on moving forward, on getting away from the bear. On living. It reminded him of the fire, though it was so much different. Where there had been heat, now there was freezing cold. Where there had been acceptance of death, now there was only the want to live. Because he did, he wanted to live to badly; he had gone through so much, he could hope for that much right? He was owed that much. And now, running from a bear, a bear that should be deep in a cave somewhere in hibernation, he couldn't help but think that maybe he was destined to die. That he wasn't supposed to be here, and that despite all senarios, he was still here. Had he angered some higher power? Why was he being punished in such a way? Was it some sort of test he was being put through? How much can an equine go through before it hits the breaking point? Before he just gives up and lets life do as it wished? He didn't understand. He was quite certain that there couldn't be any one else that had been through as much as he had and lived. It was pretty much impossible. He was an anomaly. He was still here, even if he shouldn't be. But what did that mean? Was there anything to life other than running from danger? What else was there..? He didn't know anything different.
"How the hell is that bear running that fast?!" He heard Lia say, taking the chance to look behind him and see. Indeed, the bear was close behind them, laboring to catch them. His large body was moving at a pace he had not seen, determined to catch them. Keanu gulped, turning back and forcing himself to run faster, even as Laelius did the same. His muscles screamed and his legs threatened to give out on him. But he kept running, the bear behind him. Why? He didn't know. It would certainly be easier to just stop, let the bear have him, end his seemingly endless suffering, let Lia get away. But he just kept running, as he seemed to always do.
Soon though, they ran out of room to run. The river appeared in front of them, as if out of no where. He followed Laelius, watching the ground carefully for ice patches. If he slipped now, it would surely be over, lost to the icy current. Lia began to jump, intending to make it across the river. Keanu paused for a moment, eyes wide, though his momentum still kept him moving forward, and he had no choice but to do the same and hope for the best. Lia hit the ice just moments before he did, their combined weight causing the ice to start to crack. It took a moment for his brain to think again and he quickly scrambled to his feet, slipping and sliding and trying to make it to the other side before the ice broke away and they fell into the river's grasp once again, only this time with no way to get free. Lia reached the bank just before he did, both of them collapsing in the snow, no longer caring about the cold. His breathing was labored and he couldn't think straight. It didn't seem possible that they had, in fact, made it across the river and away from the bear. The roar that followed seemed to echo his disbelief, and he turned to look at the creature that had been chasing them, standing on the other side of the river, angry. The ice had broken apart and it had no way of getting across.
"Are you okay?" She asked, and he nodded silently, forcing himself to his feet. The axolotl appeared, clinging to Keanu's mane and cooing softly, the panic sliding away. "Are you?" He managed to ask, his breath slowly returning to him. He glanced over at the bear again, seeing it's agitated face before it yowled and turned away, giving up on trying to get to them. Keanu sighed softly, relief flooding through him. He felt Lia brush her muzzle against his neck, and he turned look at her. His smile matched hers before he turned, looking at the bear one last time and then moving in the opposite direction. "We should go," he said, stepping forward and wincing as his leg protested, though he forced himself to continue walking on it. "Before it gets any ideas." He looked to the sky, seeing the clouds growing into an ominous grey. "And... Before that storm hits."

'Are you?' Keanu spoke, his breath labored, yet calming as hers did. "Y-Yeah." She said, her ribs screaming against her breathing. She pulled herself up out of the snow. 'We should go. Before it gets any ideas-' he said, glancing across the river at the extremely frustrated bear, its sharp teeth bared in anger as it stared at them. '-And... Before that storm hits,' Keanu added, and they bot glanced up at the swirling sky, growing darker by the second. Lia's ears drooped in frustration. When will the disasters end?! She thought angrily, huffing.
She stepped back, straining her neck to glance through the thickly-branced trees. A blinding flash of white filled through the sky, making Lia stagger back suddenly. The lightning came dangerously close the trees near them and Lia pinned her ears against her cranium. They did need to leave, now. The bear snorted and turned, no longer interested in them, and intent on finding shelter. Lia snorted, a loud crack of thunder ringing in her ears. The storm had advanced on them fast, and of course they had not noticed, too preoccupied on the bear. What was their luck that this had to be the fourth disaster in a row. Lia snorted, "Keanu, we should leave," Lia said, purple eyes glancing up in fear at the angry, swirling sky that was growing darker and darker.
Another flash of white, even closer to the trees, getting too close. Waayyy to close. Lia nudged Keanu's hindquarters and cantered forward, her eyes darting in tiny places, trying to find shelter. There. A small clearing that sunk into the ground, rocks covering the area, and right next to the river. Perfect! It was not far ahead and Lia rocked back on her hind legs, tossing her cranium. "Keanu, up ahead, theres a small- uhm, opening I guess- up ahead, it's big enough to take shelter in until the storm passes-" Lia was interrupted by a huge crack of thunder, shaking her whole body, and she almost slipped and fell on her face. Lia locked her knees, just staying upright. Lia glanced back at Keanu, who looked as if he almost fell to. "Hurr-" Yet again, her words were cut off by a bold flash of lightning, lighting up the whole sky and many strings of smaller flashes coming from the main one, licking the sky. Lia's scream constricted in her throat as the bolt reached down easily and merged with the tree about a 100 yards away. Fear suddenly took of Keanu's face, and he reared up, the whites of his eyes flashing. Fire. No. The scars on his legs twisting and looked as if they gleamed in the glowing red/orange/yellow/blue light. The flames easily jumped the the crown of another tree, both of the bursting into flames and crackling and creaking. Lia bolted over to Keanu, pressing her body to his, trying to comfort him. "Keanu, shhh, it's okay, come on, we need to get to the shelter, Keanu." Lia repeated, yet he wouldn't budge, eyes wide in fear. Lia pushed him forward with her chest, and he finally bolted forward, Lia galloped after him, the shelter was getting nearer, he was going to fast. Keanu ran right past it, blinded with fear, kicking up snow in all directions. Lia lengthened her stride, matching his, pulling away from him and stopping in front of him. He slammed into her and she staggered and fell, white lights popping in front of her eyes. She quickly stood up and grabbed Keanu's mane with her maw, pulling him back towards the shelter. "Keanu, please... Keanu!" Lia begged, frantic, her eyes darting between him and the blazing fire, which was licking at another tree, so close, so close....
Lia shifted and pulled Keanu, struggling against his heavy form, he dragged his hooves, his head drooping and Lia placed his head on her withers, slowly pulling him towards the rocky shelter. The time seemed to slow, and the fire seemed to grow bigger faster and faster. Lia screamed out frantically, "Keanu! Come on! Keanu! Shelter!" Some of her words drowned out by the roaring of the fire. Finally, she reached the shelter and pushed Keanu inside, standing in the entrance, the fire reflecting in her eyes which were widened in fear. She dashed to the river, splashing in, the cold water chilling her bones. She frantically kicked and splashed at the water dousing the shelter and around it. She tried to capture as much as she could before dashing inside and pouring it upon Keanu. She hunkered herself down next to him, her breathing labored in fear. She pressed against the back of the deep shelter, she could hear as each tree burst into flames, and she hoped with all her might that the fire would not reach the inside of this little covered ditch.
Lia pressed her body against Keanu's, she cold feel both of them shaking tremors. Why, oh why, were all these disasters happening? How was all of this possible?! Her thoughts wandered back to before she had seen Keanu, her life simple, not in danger, like any other day, alone, an outcast. The owl hooted feebly, curling into Lia's chest. Lia rested her head against Keanu's shaking body, she could hear his heart beating frantically. He shifted, unable to sit still with the raging fire, his eyes flashing and his heart beating like a thousand hoofbeats. "Shh, Keanu, it's be over soon. It's okay, shhh..." She said, and she rubbed her maw along his neck, trying to soothe him, calm him. She shifted closer to him, nuzzling him, running her maw along his neck and back, trying anything she though would help calm poor Keanu.
