BONAPARTE
For a moment all was still, and then suddenly the sounds of the world rushed back: the birds chirping in the brush, the faint gurgle of the nearby stream, the wind rustling the branches of the trees that surrounded them. ”L-losing me?” Bon stammered, both confused and exhilarated. He meant that much to her? Maybe he was taking this all the wrong way, maybe she felt like it would be her responsibility if he died. That must be it. Yet somehow, there was something deeper in her tone, something that told him that despite all his doubts, she did care for him. And, he realized…he cared for her, too. How had this all happened so fast? One minute they had been strangers thrown together by chance, and the next he found himself slowly falling head over heels for this mare. The sensation was unlike any he’d ever felt before. Amuna was the only mare who’d seen his true weaknesses and insecurities, yet she liked (he wouldn’t consider any other words at this point, he was still in shock over her confession) him. She liked him! He felt like shouting it out to all of the world, and yet he struggled to keep his feelings hidden. He didn’t want to ruin what they had, but…somehow he had to let her know how he felt.
Tentatively, he reached out, brushing her shoulder ever-so-slightly with his muzzle. ”Moon? I…I know that it hasn’t been long at all…in fact, it’s really soon, but…I don’t think I could take losing you either.” He dropped his head bashfully. ”I’ve never met anyone like you.”

Amuna’s ears pricked at the sound of Bon’s voice. What ever was he stuttering about? Really soon? Not long at all? She wondered if all stallions were this complicated. Then her jaw dropped and her eyes widened. He had never met anyone like her before? Did that mean…? Her wide eyes gleamed as she stared at him, his words sinking in. Was that what he meant by ‘really soon’? Even though he had only known her a little while, he did not want to lose her either and even thought she was special? She could have leapt in the air for joy. She was special! Someone that she cared about finally cared too. Her heart did a flip as his muzzle brushed her shoulder. She decided that if she died right now, she could not be possibly happier in all the remaining years of her life. But of course, she did not want to die, because now she had Bon. “I…that’s…” she began, at a loss for words. Finally she whispered, “Thanks. No one’s ever said anything like that to me, I mean saying that they’ve never met anyone like me.” She smiled at him, adding shyly, “It makes me feel special, like I’m actually a somebody,” ........................ awww, isn't so Amuna?

BONAPARTE
His ears tilted lopsidedly, anxiously, as he watched her lips part and her eyes grow larger—had he said something wrong? But then a radiant smile rippled across her features, and he knew that, for once, he had said the right thing and it had been understood. For a moment, Bon almost didn’t know whether to be happier about that or about Amuna’s smiling at him. He smiled shyly back, not wanting her to stop. He would do almost anything to keep that beautiful expression on her face, especially if the reward was knowing that he had placed it there. When she murmured her thanks, he ducked his head again in acceptance. Of course she was special! Could she not see that? ”I’ll tell you what,” he replied softly, confidence beginning to grow now that he knew that she intended to stay, ”If it’ll keep that smile on your face, I’ll tell you one special thing about yourself every day. It’s true, Moon…I’ve yet to meet a mare like you. N-not that I’ve met that many!” he finished hastily, speech still a little jumbled from simply being in her presence. But Moon deserved to know just how unique she was. She deserved to know that she was a somebody.
Perhaps even somebody to love…
--behind the post-- ahaha, see what I did there? ^^ I know it’s cheesy, but I couldn’t resist!

Amuna ducked her head, a little laugh on her lips. Tell her something special about herself every day? He would soon run short of ideas, she thought in amusement. She was about to say so, when her brow creased in a frown. She glanced at him in confusion. “You have yet to meet a mare like me?” she asked skeptically, “But you’re saying that you haven’t met that many like me? What is that supposed to mean? If you’ve already met me, you don’t have yet to meet a mare like me because you already have!” Her lips parted in an incredulous laugh, staring at Bon in confusion. He never seemed to make sense! That was probably why she liked him so. Looking at him, his adorable dished face and pricked ears, trained on her, if possible, her white cheeks would have pinkened. As it was, she looked down again, swishing her tail. Who needed daydreams when reality was so unexpectedly entertaining and so impossibly sweet? She wanted to laugh at herself, for she knew that she would always be a dreamer. Wasn’t that how she had met Bon in the first place? Tripping clumsily over him because she had been caught up in her own fantasy world? She was glad now, that she was who she was, because not only would Bon not have her any other way, but she was pretty sure that she would not like herself any other way either.

BONAPARTE
”Er…” Bon murmured, tilting his head to the side, ”…could you repeat the question?” He burst out laughing, joking back. ”What I meant, Moon, is that you’re one of a kind.” Bon nudged her playfully, enjoying the jest. She swished her tail and looked down, seeming shy, and Bon marveled at it all. He was able to make a mare shy? He, Bonaparte? He never would have guessed. ”Anyway,” he continued, feeling a little more confident, ”we can leave on our quest when you’re ready!” Bon straightened and watched her for a moment before she looked up. How was he so lucky to have her as a traveling companion? A ray of sunlight filtered through the branches, striking her pearl-colored pelt and illuminating her as if from the inside out. Yes, she was one-of-a-kind. And she was willing to stay with him, at least for now. What did that make him?

Amuna’s blonde lashes fluttered as she glanced up at Bon. “I suppose so,” she said. “Where are we headed? Where are we to find this Rasta you speak of?” As she spoke, her face clouded a little. Rasta. If she remembered correctly, Rasta was a pretty little palomino, a mare of course. Bon had said that he met her before. Before, as in before he had met her, met Amuna. She eyed him, biting her lower lip. Please don’t let there be anything between them, she mentally pleaded. Now that she knew Bon felt for her the same thing she felt for him, she realized that she was insanely jealous of him. He had not actually told her he loved her, told her that there was not and would never be anyone else. Could she count on him forever? The thought disturbed her. She wondered, absently, whether Bon held her to the same standards that she held him. Would there ever been anyone else for her? She knew that in the past she had been rather prone to flirt. Could she truly curb that tendency? Looking at Bon, she knew that if she ever could, it would be because of him. Just please, please don’t let him have anyone else.

BONAPARTE
”Well…” he began, a little sheepishly, ”I’ve been trying to find her for a few weeks now. I’ve traveled up here, the farthest north I could go, to see if she’d be here. It was where she was the last time we met, so…” He ducked his head. ”Listen, Moon, I don’t want to drag you on a wild goose chase. I don’t know how I’m going to find her; I just know that I have to.” Bon saw her expression change and he looked at her, eyes pleading. ”I understand if you’d rather not go after hearing that. But…if you don’t come, Moon, please tell me that there’s some way I’d be able to see you again?” Never would he be able to throw away the memories of the mere day that they’d had together. Even the thought of her changing her mind was painful to contemplate, but he knew that he couldn’t force her to come. Especially when he didn’t even have a plan. What sort of a mare would be willing just to follow him blindly? Deep down though, he clung to the desperate hope that Amuna just might be that type of mare. And maybe he, one day, would be the type of stag that she would follow because…well, he didn’t dare to go there yet. But maybe he could be somebody that she could love. The thought sent tingles running down his spine. Maybe, he repeated sternly to himself. Maybe.
--behind the post-- as soon as you feel like we should end this thread, just let me know. I’ve talked to abba and whenever you’re ready, we can start a short new one with Rasta (:

“Look,” she said quietly, “If you told Rasta you’d help her and if she’s a friend –“ here the words caught in her throat, “-of yours, then I’d be disappointed in you if you didn’t go help her in her time of need, really!” Amuna half hoped that Bon had caught her slight pause at the word ‘friend’. She was afraid that this Rasta was someone special to Bon, maybe he had ulterior motives for rushing to her aid. She bit her lip in frustration, afraid to ask because then she’d sound jealous and foolish, but also afraid of the unknown. Among her many fears, the unknown always loomed largest in Amuna’s mind, blotting out all her other worries with its terrifying uncertainty. What if. What if. Before she knew what she was saying, Amuna blurted, “Who is this Rasta? I mean, I know she’s an Alpha and everything but…” she hesitated and looked down, embarrassed, but continued bravely, “How are you and her connected?” She desperately hoped that Bon understood what she was trying to say. What if – there was that horrid phrase again – what if he just thought she sounded rude, prying? She had not known him for very long and had only been in a tenuous relationship with him for an even shorter span of time, and now she was already acting like busy-body. Sometimes Amuna loathed herself, loathed the indecision that always seemed to wait around life’s every bend.

BONAPARTE
Bon stared at her for a moment, remembering just in time to keep his jaw from falling open. Was she hinting that he and Rasta were…that they…Quickly he shook his head, struggling to get the words out fast enough to reassure her that no, he and Rasta hadn’t been connected in that way, weren’t connected in that way, would never be connected in that way. ”No!” he spluttered, still wagging his head vehemently, ”…it’s—it’s not like that at all! She…I…we…no.” Recovering from his initial embarrassment, he drew in a deep breath. ”I serve Rasta as a subject, and nothing more,” Bon told her, voice surprisingly steady after his little fit of shock. ”The reason I left her last spring was…well, there was someone else, and I…I felt like a bit of a third wheel. But no, Moon, she means nothing to me in that sense,” he finished earnestly. He gave her a half smile, now half incredulous that she had even wanted to know. Did she honestly think that a queen like Rasta would ever be attracted to him and that a plain bay stag like himself would have as much as a chance with her? He shook his head softly and raised his muzzle to her neck. ”You’re the only…” Bon stopped midsentence, too shy to finish the thought. Besides, she was the only what? Certainly not the only mare he’d ever met, and certainly not the only one he’d tried to woo in his awkward way. But Amuna was…well, no, it was too early for that. Not if you believe in love at first sight, a mischievous voice in the back of his mind whispered. He brushed it away, embarrassed at himself for even entertaining thoughts of love…but he couldn’t get it out of his head. Could it be?

Amuna felt herself visibly relax but at the same time felt quite foolish. She realized that she had released her pent up breath and clamped her lips together, but too late. Bon must have heard her sigh of relief, she thought, annoyed at herself. While she was mentally kicking herself, Bon’s words broke through the cloud of her thoughts like a ray of sunshine. She was the only! Wait. She glanced at him curiously. Only what? Then a mischievous smile blossomed on her face and she bent her head around to touch his neck, just as he had touched hers, her lashes brushing his skin. “Bon,” she asked, a knowing smile on her face, “You didn’t complete your sentence - you left me hanging.” She could feel her breath coming fast and she desperately hoped that she had not made a mistake in asking him that. Maybe he would avoid her question, or ignore it entirely, preferring not to elaborate. But she could not have forced herself to bite back the words, for they were pressing on her, pleading to be spoken into the air. She wanted know, she wanted him to spell it out. Maybe she just should have waited, been more patient before asking him to tell her exactly what she meant to him. She just had to know.
